Chapter 154 - Chapter 154: The Anfield Coronation

The moment Renzo stepped onto the pitch at Anfield, the sheer weight of the century-old club crashed into him.

A sprawling sea of red flooded his vision. The Kop stand loomed on the southern edge of the stadium, a massive, undulating wall of banners, scarves, and the iconic crest of Liverpool. The reverberating chords of You'll Never Walk Alone rattled his ribs, creating a suffocating, glorious wall of sound that swallowed the entire arena.

He had spent the last half-year in Serie A, dominating one of Europe's top five leagues. But the architectural differences between Italy and England were staggering. Here in the Premier League, there were no sprawling athletic tracks separating the pitch from the public. The front rows of the stands sat mere meters from the touchline. The players could see the veins popping in the supporters' necks, could hear the exact cadence of their roaring chants.

Tickets for this opening fixture had sold out two months in advance. The Anfield faithful had spent the entire summer tracking the young prodigy who had carved up Italian defenses, waiting for the day he would finally trade his purple Fiorentina kit for Liverpool red.

When Renzo emerged from the tunnel, the resulting shockwave of noise threatened to crack the stadium's foundations. Several older supporters in the lower tiers wiped at their eyes, their voices hoarse. Their generational talent, the boy Gerrard had hand-picked, was finally home.

Across the globe, international broadcast forums and social media feeds exploded with equal fervor.

[The wait is over! Renzo is starting!][That bright red kit looks so much sharper than the purple. This is where he belongs.][The atmosphere at Anfield is suffocating. I've got goosebumps just watching the broadcast!][Salah and Renzo starting together again. Aston Villa doesn't stand a chance today.]

The broadcast cameras panned across the pitch as the commentators set the stage.

"Welcome to a new era on Merseyside! Today marks the opening round of the 2015-2016 Premier League season, and all eyes are on the highly anticipated return of Renzo."

"Jürgen Klopp has completely retooled this squad. With massive signings like Salah, Firmino, and Milner sliding into the starting eleven alongside their returning midfield architect, the expectations are astronomical."

Klopp had drawn up an aggressive 4-3-3 formation for the opener. Simon Mignolet stood between the posts. The veteran pairing of Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren anchored the central defense, flanked by new arrival Nathaniel Clyne on the right and Alberto Moreno on the left.

In the midfield, Renzo took his place at the absolute center of the park, flanked by James Milner and captain Steven Gerrard. Up front, Roberto Firmino operated down the middle, with Philippe Coutinho on the right and Mohamed Salah deployed on his favored left wing.

The referee's whistle pierced the roaring crowd, signaling the start of the match.

The stadium held its collective breath the second the ball rolled toward Renzo's feet. However, instead of launching an immediate siege, Liverpool played it safe. They shifted the ball laterally across the midfield, dictating a slow, methodical tempo.

This was a direct instruction from Klopp. He had spent the entire pre-season telling the British press that Renzo was the undisputed offensive core of the new Liverpool. But theory and application were two different things. The Premier League possessed a frantic, physical rhythm that eclipsed Serie A. Klopp wanted Renzo to feel the grass, gauge the pressing speed of the opposition, and allow the new signings to tune their runs to his passing frequencies.

Over in the technical area, Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood uncrossed his arms. The tightness in his jaw began to loosen.

The pre-match hype surrounding Liverpool's revamped attack had kept Sherwood awake for nights. Yet, watching the first ten minutes unfold, he let out a slow breath. The teenager looked passive. Renzo was playing simple, horizontal passes, seemingly struggling to cope with the suffocating Premier League press.

Villa's primary objective this season was simply avoiding relegation. Sherwood had arrived at Anfield fully expecting a massacre. Now, watching the static midfield play, a spark of arrogance flared in his chest. Perhaps they could snatch a point here.

Just as Sherwood allowed himself a confident smirk, the storm broke.

Receiving a firm pass near the center circle, Renzo didn't look up. An Aston Villa midfielder charged him from the blindside. With a Ball Control attribute standing at a monstrous 95, Renzo's spatial awareness was absolute. He casually rolled his studs over the top of the ball, dragging it back a mere six inches. The Villa defender flew past him, grasping at empty air.

The fluid, devastating evasion drew a sharp gasp from the Anfield crowd.

Renzo didn't hesitate. Before the defense could compress, he planted his left foot and swung his right leg like a whip.

The Villa backline froze. Renzo was deep in his own half, entirely surrounded. There was no immediate danger.

But Salah had already ignited.

The Egyptian winger launched himself off the left flank, his boots tearing into the turf in a dead sprint. The Villa right-back snapped his head around a fraction of a second too late.

The Anfield crowd watched in stunned silence as the ball carved a sixty-meter parabolic arc through the Merseyside sky. It possessed a terrifying, mathematical precision. It dropped directly over the defender's shoulder, landing perfectly into Salah's stride without forcing him to break his sprint.

Salah cushioned the leather with a velvet touch, completely isolating the goalkeeper. He opened his hips and hammered a low, driven shot into the far bottom corner.

The net bulged.

The stadium erupted into a deafening wall of sound.

[Goal!!! Absolute class!][The Florentine connection strikes again! That long pass was surgical!][Look at Salah's run! The ball hadn't even left Renzo's foot and he was already sprinting!][That is terrifying vision. He bypassed the entire midfield and defense with one swing of his boot!]

Salah slid across the turf on his knees, his face split into a massive, blinding grin. He scrambled to his feet and pointed both index fingers directly at Renzo, waiting for the midfielder to jog over.

"Just like Florence!" Salah shouted, wrapping Renzo in a suffocating hug. "I saw you drop your shoulder and I just ran. I didn't even have to look for the ball!"

The rest of the squad swarmed them, pounding Renzo on the back. Firmino and Clyne exchanged wide-eyed glances. The entire sequence, from Renzo evading the press to the ball resting in the back of the net, took less than ten seconds.

On the touchline, Jürgen Klopp turned to the stands, violently pumping his fists into the air with a primal roar. This was the exact missing piece he had craved. Renzo possessed the rare, terrifying ability to instantly shift a stagnant positional attack into a lethal fast break.

A few yards away, Tim Sherwood stood entirely paralyzed.

His tactical clipboard slipped a fraction in his grip. His previous arrogance evaporated, replaced by a cold, sinking dread. The kid hadn't been struggling with the pace of the Premier League. He had simply been calculating the exact trajectory required to break it.

Villa immediately altered their shape, collapsing their defensive lines into a deep, compact block. Sherwood paced the edge of his technical area, barking orders to suffocate the central channels.

Football, however, cared little for desperate adjustments when outclassed by pure talent.

In the forty-first minute, James Milner crunched into a heavy tackle, dislodging the ball and poking it toward Gerrard. Shielding the ball with his body, the captain clipped a short pass to Renzo.

Renzo received the ball with his back to the opponent's goal. Behind him, Aston Villa's defensive anchor, Joleon Lescott, charged forward.

The thirty-three-year-old former Manchester City center-back was a seasoned veteran. He knew his declining pace made him vulnerable to explosive forwards, but he assumed he could physically bully a static, teenage playmaker receiving the ball under pressure.

Lescott lunged, throwing his entire weight into a tackle meant to flatten the boy from behind.

Sensing the shifting gravity, Renzo tapped the ball with the outside of his right boot, subtly shifting its position. Then, in one fluid, blindingly fast motion, he flicked his heel backward.

The ball slipped cleanly through the gap between Lescott's rushing legs.

Lescott's jaw dropped. His momentum carried him uselessly forward, leaving him stranded like a training cone as Renzo spun around his shoulder and accelerated into the open space.

The backheel nutmeg sent a shockwave of electricity through the Kop.

With Lescott out of the equation, the Villa defense panicked. Two center-backs instantly drifted left, anticipating another diagonal laser to Salah.

Renzo's eyes flicked toward the Egyptian, completely selling the fake.

Firmino, operating in the central blind spot, abruptly checked his run and darted into the penalty box. He didn't expect the ball. He only made the run to drag a marker.

Yet, the moment Firmino found a yard of space, a low, fizzing through ball arrived right at his toes, splitting the remaining defenders with geometric perfection.

Firmino didn't overthink it. He took one touch to steady himself and lashed a vicious strike past the sprawling keeper.

2-0.

The roar inside Anfield reached a fever pitch, shaking the camera gantries.

"Another magnificent assist!"

"Firmino marks his debut with a goal, and Renzo registers his second assist of the afternoon! Absolute mastery in the midfield!"

[That backheel through Lescott's legs was criminal!][Lescott is going to have nightmares about that. He completely retired him!][Two assists in forty minutes. The Premier League isn't ready for him.]

Tim Sherwood stared blankly at the scoreboard. The blood drained from his face.

His defensive block was in ruins. The illusion that a physical, gritty English defense could rattle the teenager was shattered. Renzo wasn't just adapting to the Premier League; he was turning Sherwood's tactics into an absolute mockery.
