Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 | Back with My Kids

"Mom, hurry up…!""Mom, it's so hot here…"

I just smiled as I looked at my kids.

After six years, I'm back in Country M with my two little monkeys. There are so many emotions coming back here—fear, worry… especially the thought of bumping into him.

I'm Anna, a single mother to twins. I left this country six years ago after a breakup—and at the same time, I found out I was pregnant.

But that's not an issue anymore. My kids have nothing to do with him, and he doesn't even know about them.

I should focus on starting our new life here.

"My babies, let's go, our Grab is here," I said."Okieee, Mommmmm!" they replied in unison.

Inside the Grab, I confirmed the details of our new house in City M with the driver. It's a house I bought a few months back. The renovations are already done.

Just then, my phone rang. It was my mom.

I had no choice but to answer.

"So, you're not going to meet your family first?"

I knew this was coming.

"Mom, I'll settle down for a few days first, then I'll come back to you."

"I told you—we want to meet our grandkids, not you. We miss them so much."

So basically… they don't miss me at all. Just my kids.

"Okay, Mom. Give me a few days, then I'll come home. Please don't come here unannounced."

"Fine. We'll wait for you."

After I ended the call, I looked down—both my kids had already fallen asleep on my lap. They didn't sleep at all during the five-hour flight, too busy playing with their toys.

"These kids… only want to play. Now they're sleeping like babies," I said softly.

The driver chuckled. "Kids are always like that, miss. They always do the opposite of what we ask."

I laughed. "Yes, that's true."

After a short pause, he spoke again. "By the way, I want to ask… your husband is in Country M? I didn't see him around."

I hesitated for a moment. "I'm actually a single mother. Their dad is no longer around."

"Oh… I'm sorry, ya. But it's okay. You're doing a good job taking care of them."

"Thank you."

"So, you'll be working in Country M?"

"Yes. I transferred from Country Z."

"That's good. It's nice you're working."
