Joyce's heart skipped a beat, especially when Lily Kennedy asked suspiciously, "Joyce, is that a man's voice I hear on your end?"
"My brother." She blurted out a lie.
Lily Kennedy didn't suspect a thing. "Ask Leo when he's free. I'll treat him to dinner."
After a few more brief exchanges, Joyce hastily ended the call.
By this time, Silas Thorne had already washed a wine glass. He picked up the bottle of white wine and studied the label, checking the alcohol content. Confirming it was very low, he then asked her, "Want a drink?"
"Just a little. Would you like a glass?"
Silas Thorne declined, as he had to wake up early for a flight the next day.
The two of them stood on the balcony, admiring the night view. Joyce took a sip of the wine. She could only taste a faint hint of alcohol; the flavor was dominated by fruit.
