Joyce Monroe sat on the bed, her face buried in her hands in utter dejection, watching Silas Thorne get out of bed with a pitiful and helpless look.
'It's over.'
'There's absolutely no hiding this now.'
She knew her best friend, Lily Kennedy, all too well. Once Lily was convinced someone was in the room, she'd insist on coming in to search, even if Joyce denied it. And a grown man like Silas Thorne had absolutely nowhere to hide.
"I'll wash up and head out first." Joyce Monroe got up and went into the bathroom.
After a quick wash, she dug out some disposable toiletries and had Silas Thorne tidy himself up a bit before he came out.
When she shuffled awkwardly into the living room in her fluffy slippers, Lily Kennedy was sitting on the sofa with her arms crossed. Her eyes raked over Joyce before she said sourly, "Mr. Monroe, you sure know how to have fun, don't you?"
"Lily, just listen to my excuse!"
"First, tell me this: are you two in a proper relationship?"
