Joyce Monroe felt a headache coming on. The main issue was that the new, larger bed took up so much space that the sofa in her bedroom had to be moved out. If they had to sleep in the same room tonight, there was nowhere to sleep but the bed.
"Are you going to take a shower?" Silas Thorne asked.
"Yeah."
Joyce Monroe felt like she'd had a string of bad luck recently. She grabbed a change of clothes, went into the bathroom, and told Silas Thorne to make himself at home.
Her bedroom was large. In addition to the bathroom, it connected to a huge walk-in closet and a small study that doubled as a workshop. It was impeccably clean. On the workbench sat a vase of fresh poppies and a few family photos.
Just then, his phone vibrated. Surprisingly, the call was from Kian Jacobs.
The first thing he said was:
"Did something happen at the hospital today? Someone tried to attack Joyce with a knife?"
"It was a close call, but she's fine."
