Zoe Monroe's preliminary audition for The Northerland Philharmonic was scheduled for Christmas Day. Joyce Monroe had wanted to go and cheer her on, but she had to go out of town with Silas Thorne to inspect a project factory.
"I don't want to go on this inspection tour. I'm going to die from exhaustion," Joyce Monroe whined, rolling around on the bed in Zoe Monroe's hotel room.
"The capable are always busy," Zoe Monroe said, pouring her a cup of wellness tea.
"But this is your big audition. I wanted to be the first to congratulate you."
"I'll call you the moment I pass."
The scores and results would be announced on the spot, so she would know very quickly whether she'd made it into the orchestra.
Zoe Monroe, on the other hand, was rather relieved her sister couldn't make it. If Joyce were there, she would definitely be more nervous. Joyce Monroe took the tea and pointed to a bag on the table. "Take a look. It's for you."
