Such intricate perception would be an enormous help to Lu Chao in a fight.
But Lu Chao quickly put those thoughts aside, a smile spreading across his face.
'With the Bright Eyes and Clear Wind Guide, I can repair the meridians around Xiao Su'er's eyes and restore her sight.'
'But I still need to heal the burns all over Xiao Su'er's body.'
The Heavenly Destiny Bright Eye Bone could only heal eyes; it was useless against burns.
To heal the burns, he would have to devour a third Star Destiny Bone—one that could treat burns—and that was something he could only do after reaching the Innate Realm.
However, Lu Chao's eyes suddenly widened. 'Huh? My Life-taking Star-devouring Bone didn't advance to an Earth Bone.'
He suddenly realized his Life-taking Star-devouring Bone was still just a Profound Bone.
Lu Chao's face filled with doubt, then a sharp glint flashed in his eyes. 'Could it be... devouring a single Star Destiny Bone isn't enough to advance?'
In the Qi Gathering Realm, he had devoured the Primordial Yang Bone to form his Profound Bone.
Now that he was in the Postnatal Realm, it was very likely that one Bright Eyes Bone wasn't enough.
Thinking this, Lu Chao immediately entered his Bone Inner World again, and he quickly received the information on the requirements to advance to an Earth Bone.
The rule was clear: he needed to devour two Star Destiny Bones.
He had just devoured the first one.
This meant he could devour a second bone while still in the Postnatal Realm, but he would have to reach... the Postnatal Fifth Layer!
His consciousness withdrew from the Bone Inner World...
Lu Chao took a deep breath and slowly stood up. 'The Postnatal Fifth Layer, huh? At least that's easier to reach than the Innate Realm. Right now, I'll heal Xiao Su'er's eyes first.'
He then turned toward the dungeon's heavy iron door and walked toward it, one step at a time.
BOOM...
With a single palm strike, Lu Chao shattered the iron door into pieces. The Cheng Mansion's dungeon could contain someone in the Qi Gathering Realm, but it was no match for a Postnatal Realm expert.
The next instant, the voices of the Cheng Mansion guards rang out from the dungeon. "What happened?"
They stared, wide-eyed, at the cloud of iron shards that had been the door. A dark figure then emerged from the settling dust and fragments.
The guards were stunned. "The country brute is escaping!" they all yelled. "Quick, report to the Patriarch!"
Their words had barely faded when... WHOOSH!
The iron fragments swirled into a furious tempest, hurtling toward the guards. Screams echoed through the dungeon for a moment, then all fell silent.
Lu Chao strode out of the dungeon, muttering, "Xiao Su'er's vision is getting worse. How could I possibly wait until after the wedding?"
With that thought, he flashed toward Cheng Yunsu's chambers.
But just as he drew near, Lu Chao abruptly halted.
He saw two men blocking the only path to Cheng Yunsu's room. One was the broken-legged Cheng Gai; the other, a fresh-faced young man of about fifteen or sixteen.
At first, Lu Chao planned to go around them, but their conversation caught his attention.
Cheng Gai spoke up. "Yunxiang, is your mother really going to help that bitch, Cheng Yunsu?"
The youth named Yunxiang snickered. "As if. We're just fooling her. My mother has her eye on that bitch's bracelet. She's tried asking for it a few times before but never got it. This time, she's positive she can trick it out of her."
Cheng Gai roared with laughter. "Yunxiang, Cheng Yunsu is your sister, you know. Are you sure you should be calling her a bitch?"
Shrugging, Cheng Yunxiang replied with a grin, "You jest, Cousin Gai. She and I don't share a mother."
Hearing this, a murderous glint flashed in Lu Chao's eyes as he watched from the shadows.
He hadn't known much about Cheng Yunsu's parents, but things were becoming clearer.
Cheng Yunsu's birth mother was nowhere to be found, and her father, Cheng Chuming, had taken another wife who had given birth to this Cheng Yunxiang.
And now, this stepmother was trying to trick Cheng Yunsu out of her bracelet.
With a cold glance at Cheng Gai and Cheng Yunxiang, Lu Chao flashed toward Cheng Yunsu's room without a word.
The pair had no idea that Lu Chao had overheard their entire conversation.
In no time, Lu Chao was once again outside Cheng Yunsu's window.
Just as he'd expected, he saw Cheng Yunsu inside, speaking with a gaudily dressed middle-aged woman.
He heard Cheng Yunsu's quiet voice. "Aunt Xin, this bracelet is the only thing my mother left me. I'm afraid I..."
Cheng Yunsu's eyes filled with anguish, and she trailed off, unable to finish.
The middle-aged woman squeezed Cheng Yunsu's hand, her expression one of false kindness. "Aunt Xin understands completely. But you've offended Wu Xin from the City Lord's Mansion. It's an enormous risk, even for my father, to save your fiancé's life."
"As his daughter, I can't just let my father take such a risk for nothing, can I?"
"If something were to go wrong, my father could present this bracelet to Miss Wu to appease her and escape punishment."
Cheng Yunsu's body trembled as she listened.
"Sigh..."
Seeing her reaction, the middle-aged woman sighed. "Fine, forget it. I'll think of something else. It is, after all, what your mother left for you."
With that, the middle-aged woman turned around...
But just as she had taken three steps, Cheng Yunsu stopped her. "Aunt Xin, does Wu Xin really want him dead?"
The "him" was, of course, Lu Chao.
The middle-aged woman halted. With her back still to Cheng Yunsu, a triumphant smile bloomed on her face. "It's the absolute truth. My father said Wu Xin is sure to hack your husband-to-be to pieces at your wedding."
