The Tour of Guangxi has always designated the stage featuring Nongla Mountain as the Queen Stage of the race.
The reason lies in the very real difficulty of this mountaintop finish.
When the Tour of Guangxi was first held, the Nongla Mountain climb wasn't as difficult as it has been in recent years.
This was because in the Tour of Guangxi races before the pandemic, the final winding mountain road climb only finished at the memorial arch of the Nongla Scenic Area.
But when the Tour of Guangxi resumed post-pandemic, the race organizers extended the finish line 1.2 km further up from the arch.
And this 1.2-kilometer extension of uphill road greatly increased the race's difficulty.
Not only does it have an average gradient of 14.8%, but it also makes the final Nongla Mountain climb longer, demanding much better energy management.
