The rain had all but stopped as moonlight crept from behind the clouds. Its silver glow spilled across the land, illuminating Hammerbone and the Mage Apprentice, Deng Lun, as they stood atop the dark rocks of the pass.
Gazing at the distant Slime fortress, which looked no bigger than his fist under the moonlight, Hammerbone yawned, scratched his itchy rear, and complained, "Can't these damn Slimes just surrender? Why do I have to stand guard here in the middle of the night?"
Deng Lun approached, leaning on his Magic Staff, and chuckled softly. "Vice-Legion Commander Hammerbone, we can't let this opportunity slip by. Tonight is the perfect time to strike. After tomorrow, most of these Undead will have dispersed."
Hammerbone waved his hand in irritation. "I know, I know. You talk too much."
'This was just ridiculous.'
He was already on edge because of that grim and terrifying Demon, Ai. Now there was this creepy, annoying human to deal with too.
