Jett Westgate followed the direction of the small pointing finger, his gaze landing on Zane Patterson.
"Oh," he responded softly.
"Since he's the good guy, and I'm the bad guy..."
He looked at Pippa, his expression deceptively charming. "Then I suppose I'll have to do what bad guys do."
Pippa felt a chill run down his spine under Jett's gaze. Tears still clung to his face, but he had forgotten to cry.
Red roses bloomed quietly on either side of him. Holding Pippa, he walked slowly down the petal-strewn red carpet, approaching Annelise Valentine.
He held Pippa steadily with one arm, his other hand reaching out to grab Annelise Valentine's wrist, intending to pull her toward him.
In that same instant, Zane Patterson's hand moved as well. He grasped Annelise Valentine's other wrist, holding her firmly in place.
Two hands, one in front, one behind. One cold, one warm. One tight, one trembling.
