Annelise Valentine wanted to take Pippa, but Jett Westgate walked right past her with the boy in his arms and handed him to the butler.
"From now on, Pippa will sleep on his own. I'll arrange for people to take care of his daily needs."
"No," Annelise Valentine refused without a second thought. "He's still getting used to this place. He needs at least—"
"At least what?" Jett Westgate turned to look at her. "If he can't adapt, he'll learn. Whether it's here or anywhere else."
The butler carried Pippa away, disappearing around a corner in the hallway.
She tried to go after them, but Jett Westgate stopped her.
Jett Westgate grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her toward the master bedroom.
He closed the bedroom door behind them. The soft CLICK sent a shiver through her heart.
She leaned against the door, the cool wood pressing against her back. Her heart was racing, and she felt deeply uneasy.
