The next day, Phoebe woke up aching all over for some unknown reason. It felt as if someone had pinned her to the ground and given her a harsh beating.
'Did I have sleep paralysis or something?'
Phoebe frowned and rubbed her arm.
'That can't be right. I didn't do any heavy lifting yesterday, did I?'
Full of questions, Phoebe got out of bed.
'I'll stop thinking about it. I have to go to work today, anyway.'
When Phoebe got up and went downstairs that day, she didn't see Jace. She made breakfast and waited for a while, but he still didn't appear. Seeing that she was about to be late for work, Phoebe turned around and went upstairs.
She walked to Jace's door and hesitated for a moment before knocking.
"Mr. Lennox?"
Phoebe called out, then waited a moment. There was no response.
"Mr. Lennox?"
Phoebe called out again.
But there was still no reply.
'Could he have left before I woke up again?'
Phoebe sighed. Since no one was answering the door, that must be the case.
