Phoebe acted as if she hadn't heard a word from Jace. She just lay on the bed, using what little strength she had left to grip her own hands.
If she had the strength to move, the one and only thing she wanted to do right now was smash her fist into Jace's face.
She had already passed out twice during the recent torture. Each time, it was the searing pain that dragged her back to consciousness. Her mind was foggy. She had no strength to spare, and now, even her head was starting to ache.
When Jace returned to the bed with the ointment, he noticed something was wrong with Phoebe.
He knew she hated him, but he didn't regret it one bit.
'This was for the best. At least now he didn't have to be so timid, shackled by all the crap that had stopped him from taking this step!'
Phoebe lay there in a daze, feeling a cool sensation on her body. The areas that had been throbbing with pain gradually started to feel some relief from the cool touch.
