When Phoebe saw Jace come back carrying groceries, her hand, which had been reaching for the refrigerator, paused. She acted like nothing was wrong, grabbed a carton of yogurt, and went back to the sofa, pulling her laptop onto her lap again.
Jace watched her but said nothing.
He carried the groceries into the kitchen and started to wash the vegetables and cook.
Phoebe sat on the sofa, staring at her laptop. Only after Jace had gone into the kitchen did she lift her head and sneak a peek in that direction.
'Well, at least he's making dinner without being asked.'
'But there's no way I'm just going to forgive and forget that easily!'
Just as Phoebe was watching, Jace, who had his back to her, suddenly turned around. The abrupt movement made her heart leap. Feeling as guilty as a thief caught red-handed, she whipped her head to the side and rubbed her neck.
'I totally wasn't peeking at him.'
While Jace cooked, Phoebe sat on the sofa like a princess, looking at her laptop.
