Voices were calling—
"Rosie—!"
"Rosie—!"
One voice sounded like Felix, the other like Aaron Axton.
She heard someone calling her name. She heard a car roar past. She saw bright red blood, a blood-red car, and its license plate.
Red. Everything was red.
After what felt like an eternity, Yara Quillan finally snapped out of her daze. She scrambled up from the ground, crawling desperately over to Rose Sanders. Shoving aside the two people in her way, she cradled Rose and cried, "Rosie, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
"Rosie? Rosie, wake up! You can't leave me all alone! Didn't you say you had something to tell me after the wedding? Rosie, Rosie, please wake up! I'm begging you, just wake up! Wake up and look at me, just for a second, please?"
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Rose Sanders was rushed to the emergency room. Yara Quillan squatted in the hospital corridor, curled into a tight ball, staring at her hands.
