'She couldn't bring herself to do it. All she wanted was to leave him. How had he become like this in just a few short days?'
Yara Quillan stared in disbelief at the man who was so pale he looked close to death.
She wanted to run. 'If I can just get out of here, I won't have to see any of this. Then, whether Henry Lester lives or dies will have nothing to do with me.'
But she couldn't bring herself to move.
Just then, Owen Morgan, having changed his clothes, walked in. He gazed at Henry Lester, who was still in surgery, and spoke to Yara Quillan without turning his head. "Henry's condition is critical right now. Yara, even if you don't care about him anymore... for the sake of all the years he's looked after you, go give him a reason to hold on."
Yara Quillan bit her lower lip hard, but finally, she walked over. The attending physician started to intervene, but after seeing the look in Owen Morgan's eyes and glancing at Yara Quillan, he tacitly allowed it.
