Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

*Kate's POV*

A few days later, Rose packed into my house so we could save rent. It has been really crazy since we've just been drowning in our sorrows, and Rose, who sounded so confident in Mr. Brown's office, has been yapping about her life to me since. I just wonder why life has to be so hard.

"Rose, baby," I called.

"Yes," she answered, still down.

Huh! How about we go get some alcohol? I asked, at least we can drink and forget about our sorrows today, I added.

"Wowww, I'd love that," she said as her face lit up. Rose quickly put on her pants, and we started going to the convenience store. When we got there, we started picking out the stuff we came to buy, when I noticed someone watching us, and I got goosebumps immediately.

On our way home, I sighted a poster on the wall about a job offer at HR Company.

"Rose! Rose, look at that poster—it's a job offer," I exclaimed.

She came closer and checked. "Isn't that the famous HR Company?" she said.

"The famous Martins company? Do you think we should apply, I mean they'll want someone with a degree, experience, and all that."

"Isn't it better to try than sit home all day?" I said.

But still… it's just… Rose said, trying to find a point.

"Rose, baby, let's try. We never know; we might get the job," I said, encouraging her.

"Okay, let's do this," she exclaimed.

Since it included the job of an Executive Secretary and an Executive Assistant in the marketing team, I applied for the job of a Secretary, while Rose applied for the Marketing team assistant job. After we were done applying for the job, we turned on music and started dancing and drinking.

*Richard's POV*

Since the day I saw the girl with brown eyes at the coffee shop, I haven't stopped being curious about her, especially when my bodyguard said he saw her at the convenience store yesterday with someone who would likely be her friend. Since then, I haven't been seeing her at the coffee shop anymore, but today I decided to ask the manager about her.

"Good morning, sir," Ray greeted.

"Morning, can I get my coffee? Black," I said.

He immediately made it for me.

"Where is the manager's office?" I asked him.

My boss just wants to ask him some questions," my bodyguard said since he was reluctant.

"Oh, okay… it's the last door on the left," he said.

I entered the office and was immediately offered a seat.

"Sir… wh…what brings you here?" the manager, Mr. Brown, said stuttering.

"Where is the girl with the brown eyes?" My bodyguard asked.

"Brown eyes, brown… oh, do you mean Kate?" the manager said, suddenly remembering.

"I don't know her name, but My boss hasn't been seeing her here lately. Sh… she no more works here; the coffee shop is short of money, so I had to cut down workers; her friend also quit with her, saying it was unfair," he said, bowing his head.

"You sacked her??" I said, staring daggers at him.

"I didn't have a choice…" he said, trying to explain.

I stood up immediately and left the coffee shop. I don't even know why I'm angry, but I am, and I'm starting to wonder, "What the fuck is wrong with me!"

*Few days later*

I got to the company and was briefed about the interview that's happening the next day. Apparently, the interview for the staff we need will be happening on the same day, and I will be in charge of the first interview.

"So who will be in charge of the other one?" we thought.

"How about I ask Bian if he could help?" I suggested.

"Bian?" Alexis Turner, head of operations. She is one of the executives in the company and also my ex. After we broke up, she still chose to continue working in the company. Yeah, even though he owns a gym, he actually studied marketing in school, and I think he will be able to help, I explained.

After other matters had been addressed, we ended the meeting. When I got home, I called Bian and managed to convince him to help take over the second interview.

*Kate's POV*

The day of the interview, Rose and I woke up very early and dressed as corporate as we could; we already prepared and practiced some possible questions that might be asked.

"Rose, I'm nervous," I said, looking at her.

"Owww, sweet Kate, just walk in and own the place," she said. "We are queens, after all," she added, trying to lighten my mood.

"Thanks, Rose. Let's go kick butt!" I exclaimed, sounding more confident.

"Yeah, that's the vibe!!"

We hugged ourselves tightly before heading for the company. When we got there, Rose was led to the marketing department of the company where her interview would be taking place. The receptionist also took me to the waiting room where I met three other people who also came for the interview. I waited patiently, even though a part of me is nervous; I remained calm.

"Kate Smith," the receptionist called.

Since it's my turn, I stood up and entered the conference room; three people were inside. I introduced myself and was told to seat.

And then I saw him—he looked really familiar. I thought, then I remembered—the black coffee guy who was always staring at me. I noticed he was staring again; it's so creepy, so I tried to avoid his gaze.

"Kate Smith," Alexis said, her voice crisp. "I am Alexis Turner, Head of Operations."

His gaze was still fixed on me.

"Tell me, Kate, what makes you think you'd fit here?" That question, his voice. My heart jumped. "I… work hard; I'm reliable."

"What do you think of power?" Alexis asked.

I paused, thinking. "It's… a tool, wisely used or abused."

"And how do you handle… intense situations?" he asked, his gaze burning deep into my soul.

I couldn't avoid his gaze anymore. "I… stay calm."

The interview continued, weird questions, and his questions mostly about me. And finally, Alexis smiled. "Thank you, Kate; we will be in touch."

Immediately I got out of the conference room, I took a deep breath. "Really crazy," I thought.

*In another part of the building: Rose's interview*

Rose was led to another office. Director Jameson greeted her.

"Bian Williams will be in charge," he said.

A moment later, Bian walked in, locking eyes with Rose.

"Ms…?" he said.

"Rose," she said.

The interview went on, Bian trying to be professional but still flirting too.

"We'll be in touch," Director Jameson said.

We met outside.

"How was it?" I asked.

Rose shrugged. "It was fine, but Bian was… something; he was trying to flirt with me."

" What about you? I heard the CEO was in charge of your interview," Rose said.

"The CEO??" I said, sounding lost.

"You didn't know?" She brought out her phone, showing me his picture.

"He is the CEO?!" I said, almost shouting.

"Yeah, he is. What's wrong?"

I explained to her how the interview went and how weird he was.

"Woww!! That's intense," she exclaimed.

We went home, hoping for a good result.
