Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: All Gains

Luo Yunxi couldn't care less where Feng Moxi was putting the supplies. She quickly found a large hiking backpack and filled it with things like candy, chocolate, cookies, ham sausages, instant noodles, and canned goods.

These items seemed filling and were easy to eat.

Just as the two were finishing up, the back door suddenly flew open, and Big-bearded Wan Yong charged in with his Big Saber.

The blade was still dripping with black blood, and a faint killing intent clung to him.

He frowned as he surveyed the trashed convenience store, noting the sparse amount of goods left.

But the young man with the Gold Ability just chuckled. He glanced at Luo Yunxi's stuffed backpack and sneered, "You two sure know how to take advantage of a situation." Then he grabbed a backpack himself and began to wantonly stuff it with supplies.

Luo Yunxi curled her lip disdainfully.

Feng Moxi, however, acted as if she hadn't heard a thing, ignoring him completely.

"Damn it, what kind of shitty store is this? Not even a single roll of toilet paper. How unlucky." The man cursed while glaring viciously at Luo Yunxi's full pack.

His eyes gleamed with malice.

Luo Yunxi instantly pulled her full pack behind her back. "I didn't see any either," she said. "Maybe someone else already took them."

Feng Moxi couldn't be bothered to argue with them. She had already spotted the small building next door, which appeared to be a seed shop. 'Thinking about that mysterious space,' she mused, 'it might have land where I can plant things.' The thought made her eager to investigate.

'No amount of supplies can last forever in the Apocalypse. But if I could grow my own food...!'

Four years into the Apocalypse, people would be so hungry they would resort to eating insects and ants.

If the research institutes hadn't figured out that mutated animal meat was edible, human flesh might have become a sought-after commodity.

She grabbed Luo Yunxi and hurried to the seed shop next door. To her surprise, both the front and back doors were shut tight. Inside, baskets overflowing with all kinds of seeds were displayed.

There were also countless smaller packets of seeds, all of which Feng Moxi collected.

Only then did the two of them breathe a sigh of relief.

Luo Yunxi pulled two ham sausages from her stuffed pack and began to eat with relish. "This is delicious," she mumbled through a mouthful. "I haven't eaten this freely in so long."

Feng Moxi also unwrapped a large sausage and took a slow bite, thinking to herself, 'The shop next to this one seems to be a spice shop.'

'Can't let that one go, either.'

'Wan Yong and his group must be tired,' she reasoned. 'They're probably feasting in the convenience store and won't have time to bother us for a while.'

After they finished eating, they quickly pried open the door to the spice shop. Just like the convenience store, many glass bottles of seasoning had been shattered on the floor by the Zhen.

The place was a total mess.

It looked as if it had been ransacked.

But Feng Moxi's eyes immediately landed on five large boxes of salt piled in a corner. Without hesitation, she collected four of them, then picked out a few other quality seasonings and collected those as well.

Luo Yunxi's eyes widened in astonishment. Even a complete fool would have realized by now that Xiao Xi possessed a legendary spatial ability.

The sheer, seemingly endless amount of supplies she could store was staggering. Seeing Feng Moxi's questioning look, Yunxi quickly covered her mouth and shook her head. "I don't know anything!"

"Good girl."

Just then, He Ping walked in. He casually scanned the room, his gaze ultimately settling on the salt.

Feng Moxi's eyes flickered. 'This man has foresight.'

'People can do without many things, but salt will be crucial in the days to come.'

The sounds of human activity from the shops with their doors wide open gradually attracted the monsters.

The deeper they ventured, the more monsters they encountered, and the narrower the alleyways became. In addition to collapsed buildings, numerous damaged vehicles completely blocked the crisscrossing paths.

The sounds of crowing chickens and barking dogs grew increasingly eerie, making it impossible to advance any further down the backstreets.

Before they knew it, the sky began to darken. In the distance, countless monsters grew restless, their roars swelling in volume.

He Ping moved closer to the two women and asked in a low voice, "It's getting dark. What are your plans?"

Feng Moxi replied expressionlessly, "This place is getting dangerous."

He Ping thought the same. 'The monsters are more active at night, and these doors and windows might not hold them back. Besides, I have my family waiting for me.'

Wan Yong and his men were also nearing the end of their stamina. He Ping said in a low voice, "We're retreating. We'll come back tomorrow."

He ended up shouldering the remaining box of salt and quickly fell back.

Seeing this, Luo Yunxi also ran to the convenience store and, HUFFING AND PUFFING, dragged out a bag of rice.

She grinned, bearing her teeth. "I can still carry stuff!"

Feng Moxi was rendered speechless. She quickly took the bag of rice, tossed it into her space, and then dashed into the convenience store. With a single sweep of her hand, the entire store was emptied.

The two of them then retreated quickly as well.

By then, Wan Yong and his group were long gone, not even a shadow remained.

As they passed the large bridge, they casually threw some wooden debris in the way to block the entrance.

Only after doing this did they leave, feeling a bit more secure.

By the time they got back to the small building, He Ping's team was already sitting in the courtyard, eating dinner.

When he saw Feng Moxi and Luo Yunxi return with nothing but the backpacks they'd left with, he secretly shook his head.

'These kids are still too young,' he thought. 'They don't understand the hardships of the Apocalypse. How can you last without staple foods? The clearing effort will intensify tomorrow, and I'm afraid it will only get more dangerous.'

He held a bowl of white rice topped with a thick layer of stewed cabbage, potatoes, and canned meat, steam still rising from it. He smiled at them. "If you two ladies don't mind, why don't you join us for a bite?"

Luo Yunxi's eyes lit up at the sight of the food, and Feng Moxi was no different.

But seeing the dozen or so people staring at them like a pack of wolves, Feng Moxi said casually, "No, thank you. We have our own food."

The two of them turned and walked toward their separate small building.

'Based on today's fight,' Feng Moxi analyzed, 'this team has decent combat skills and coordination, but there are too many ordinary people among them. The only ones with a superpower are Wan Yong, He Ping, and that young man with the Gold Element.'

'Furthermore, their control over their superpowers is poor; they spend most of their time relying on brute force.'

'If they weren't all strong young adults with good teamwork, they probably wouldn't have lasted this long.'

As soon as they were inside, Luo Yunxi started grumbling. "The nerve of them! Starting dinner before we even got back. They obviously didn't want to share. Hmph, as if I'd want any of their food anyway."

Though in the past, they had eaten moldy steamed buns, so there was little they could actually afford to look down on.

"Xiao Xi, what are we eating?"

Feng Moxi looked at the kitchen, where a makeshift stove had been built from bricks, with a pile of firewood next to it. The disaster had struck so suddenly that the water and power had been cut off long ago.

"Let's keep it simple and just boil some instant noodles."

"You got it."

Luo Yunxi eagerly pulled out the supplies she had gathered from the store. "I'll start the fire, and you can cook, Xiao Xi." She rummaged through the kindling and found a lighter.

After a few tries, she had a fire going.
