Several pairs of exhausted eyes turned toward the source of the sound.

Felix Fields crunched over dry branches in his military boots, the moonlight outlining his tall silhouette.

"Two hundred meters ahead, there's a house by the road." He flicked a viscous fluid from his dagger, the cold glint of metal flashing across Josie Quinn's face. "We'll make do there for the night."

"That's great!"

Jane Alden's cheer sounded exceptionally clear in the dead-silent wilderness.

Josie Quinn rubbed her aching shoulders. The full day of walking had left her body feeling as heavy as lead. If not for the constant threat of zombies, she could have slept right there for three days and three nights.

Perhaps because Felix Fields had been so thorough in clearing the path, they hadn't encountered a single zombie.

Once inside, Felix Fields was the last one in, and he shut the door behind them.

"Grandma, you should eat something."
