Jane Alden followed her in and quietly helped Josie pack her clothes and some small belongings.
"Cece, don't you like Felix anymore?" Jane finally couldn't help but ask in a small voice as she watched.
Josie's hands paused as she was folding clothes. Without looking up, she said, "Jane, in this day and age, love is sometimes the most useless thing. The problems between Felix and me can't be solved by whether we like each other or not. We've... reached the end of the road. He won't want to see me again."
She spoke with such finality, cutting off any words of comfort Jane might have offered.
Jane Alden looked at Josie's resolute profile, finally just sighing and silently speeding up her packing. "Well... okay. Cece, you have to take care of yourself. I'll come visit you when I have time."
In the end, Josie only packed a single, medium-sized backpack.
