A knock sounded at the door. "Cece, is now a good time? I'm coming in."
Josie Quinn quickly returned to her chair. "Yes, I'm free. Come on in, Julian."
The door opened, and Julian Ford walked in slowly, carrying a tray.
On the tray sat a vial and a syringe.
Josie knew what it was. Her eyes flickered for a moment before she deliberately relaxed her shoulders and meekly lowered her gaze.
"Julian, I'm scared it'll hurt. Can we please not do the injection?"
She did her best to appear obedient and harmless, all in the hopes of making Julian Ford lower his guard and stop giving her that damned suppressant.
Her docile expression reminded him of how Josie looked as a child, and for a moment, he seemed lost in a trance.
