Although Gavin Donovan hadn't encountered anyone else yet, Faye Yardley still offered a reminder. "If other people show up around your raft, you'd better not let them on. Even if it's someone you know, don't agree to requests like merging rafts to live together."
"Why, Boss?"
"You can't always trust people. You don't want someone to take over your raft and all your things in the end, do you?"
Faye Yardley felt she was only telling him this out of the camaraderie they'd built fighting side-by-side. If he didn't want to listen, so be it. 'Respecting another person's destiny is a basic courtesy, isn't it?'
Gavin Donovan chuckled. "Okay, Boss. I'll remember that."
As for him always calling her "Boss," Faye Yardley couldn't be bothered to correct him anymore. Whatever made him happy.
"I'll come find you again at seven, Boss. I won't take up any more of your time now."
