That statement from Dominic was brimming with a sense of possessiveness, as if he wanted to declare that Lucien belonged entirely to him. Playing along, Lucien gazed up at the man, his eyes sparkling with unshed moisture, projecting an image of boundless, lingering attachment. 

Everything that Lucien was currently displaying gave Dominic the distinct feeling that this person was like a little canary, securely locked within a golden cage that Dominic himself had forged. This thought made Dominic feel increasingly complacent, amplifying his twisted sense of delight by a significant margin. 

Lucien had his hand kept firmly pressed against that broad, solid chest. Beneath the thin fabric of the dress shirt, the man's heartbeat pounded relentlessly, urgent and powerful like an engine operating far beyond its maximum capacity.
