Chapter 2 - The Spider System [2]

After I read what was on the system a hundred times and comprehended everything, I started trying out my superpowers.

First was wall climbing. I went to the wall of my room and simply put my hand on it. As soon as I thought about climbing, my hand stuck there, easily lifting all my weight.

I had expected it to feel hard, like a pull-up. I can't even do one pull-up. But it was effortless.

I climbed with my legs too. I was wearing socks, yet they stuck to the wall somehow.

I climbed the wall like a bug, like a fucking spider.

I kept climbing and laughing, unable to believe I actually had superpowers.

"I am actually awakened. Holy mother of glory, I HAVE SUPER POWERS, BITCHES!"

I reached the ceiling and climbed across it too. I don't know why I wasn't scared of falling, but I wasn't.

I climbed to the other end of the room and did it again, multiple times, all over my apartment. I couldn't believe it and I didn't stop until I got tired.

That was all I could try for now. I couldn't test spider senses or rapid recovery yet.

The system had more explanations about these abilities. Spider senses were for sensing danger, and rapid recovery sped up healing from training, tiredness, cuts, bruises, or injuries.

Wait, these were all my abilities, but there was still more to test, like my jump.

I jumped as hard as I could. It was only about one meter, but I couldn't believe I had jumped that high. I jumped again and touched the ceiling, then hung there with my hands like my fingers were glued to it.

I turned off the climbing ability and dropped down onto two legs and one hand.

After getting what my grandfather had promised me in the letter, I read it again, this time focusing on the other details.

"What you will get will help you achieve your goals in life. So you must have big goals, grandson."

Then suddenly the system screen opened on its own, making me flinch.

[You are ready to read the message your grandfather left you.]

Writing started appearing on the screen, accompanied by my grandfather's voice.

[Sorry grandson, I know you remember me as the person who took your parents from you. But you will understand someday why this happened. This is my gift to you for your 18th birthday. I didn't think that your parents would die, or I would have let them leave you a message here too. Sorry about that, son.]

[This system will help you achieve your goals in life. But if you want to know what your parents died for… not now, but when the system knows you are ready. It will give you the choice to continue pursuing the goal that your parents died for. I know you want to know that now, but you are not ready yet.]

[If you want to get ready faster, level up faster. And use the system smartly. If you want to know what your parents died for now, make the system help you. Talk to you later, grandson.]

Suddenly the system screen disappeared, leaving me shocked.

I hit the desk with a punch, and the desk broke in half, making me stand up. I looked at the desk, then at my hand.

Yeah, I was stronger now. I hadn't tested my strength yet. "Fuck."

I was going to leave this apartment anyway. But what did Grandpa just say? The goal that my parents died for? Why didn't he just tell me what it was? "The mother fu… That's why I hate him, Grandma. I don't want to curse him just for you, Grandma. Rest in peace."

Then suddenly the system screen appeared again.

[You have a new goal: Finding out what the goal your parents died for was.]

[First mission for this goal is the same as your original first mission.]

[Do your mandatory military service.]

I started preparing my bag. I had already decided to join and complete my military service.

Then I got out and went to an empty park to test my powers more.

Running. I was so fast. Jumping. I even did a side flip after running and jumping without even planning to. I was shocked and tried to do it again, but I couldn't.

"What the fuck was that?"

I found myself naturally good at parkour, even though I had never done it before in my life.

I had a lot of fun that evening.

The next day I took my bag and caught a taxi straight to the military base in the city.

After they checked only my ID, they let me into one of their offices.

I sat there while a young man typed on the computer.

"When did you awaken?" he asked.

"Just yesterday, when I turned 18. I got access to what my grandpa left me. My grandpa was chosen by the tower and he chose me to inherit his power or something like that. I don't exactly know."

"What's your grandpa's name?" the military officer asked.

I told him my grandfather's name.

He searched and his eyes widened. Then he quickly smoothed his expression.

"I see," he said. "Your parents were hunters?"

"They died when I was in primary school."

"Sorry for that. Who did you grow up with? Your grandfather?"

"I grew up with my grandmother. My grandfather was a hunter too. He was always absent for months, then one day he came back sick and died in the hospital. My grandma died shortly after in the same hospital. They were buried next to each other."

"Sorry to make you remember all that."

"Don't worry about it."

"Your military service will be in Tindy."

I almost slammed his desk. "Fuc… sorry. Tindy then. In the middle of the desert."

"I worked there for two years. It's not that bad actually. The base is close to the city, and it's a big city. You can enjoy your time there on weekends. I have some friends there. I'll call them to take care of you."

"Thank you." Not like I needed that. I had lived alone all through high school. I could take care of myself.

"You will fly there on one of the military planes. There is a flight scheduled today, and another next week. You already have your bag. Want to go today?"

"Yeah," I said.

"Okay. I will give you your paperwork. Just go to the airport wearing the military uniform we'll give you. They will see you and handle everything."

I took my paperwork and changed into the military uniform there. Then they gave me a ride in one of their vehicles to the airport.

I hadn't expected them to treat me this well, but they did, like I was the son of some important family or something.

There were still four hours before the flight, so I logged into the airport wifi and sat waiting.

The guy who had given me the ride said, "Half an hour before the flight, if nobody from the military comes for you, just ask security or the police for directions."

While I was scrolling on my phone, I heard a girl's voice.

"Excuse me."

I turned and saw someone in full military uniform like mine. I looked from her shoes up until my gaze locked on her face.

"Holy shit," I said.
