Chapter 49 - Takaba Shenanigans (2)

Yuta left pretty quickly after that.

Not because I told him to, he just looked at the wall he destroyed, then at me, then at Takaba, and somehow decided the healthiest option was to leave the dimension entirely.

He looked genuinely guilty as he backed away.

"I'll… get this fixed," he said to himself as he walked away.

"It's fine," I replied back as I watched him walk away.

As he kept walking, he hit a bush and fell down. He had lost his balance due to him not looking where he was going....

I would have laughed at him before, but currently situation wasn't fine.

My dorm looked like it had lost a war.

And internally, I was screaming.

"Yuta… Don't leave me alone with this guy."

I watched him walk off anyway, shoulders a bit stiff, like he was trying not to make it even worse after his fall.

"…Yuta…" I whispered. "Come back…"

Too late. He was gone.

Takaba turned to me with a grin again.

Then, suddenly, he forced it down into something more "serious," like he was switching modes.

He stepped closer and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Shall we go?" he asked.

"…Go where?" I replied immediately.

He looked me dead in the eyes.

"To get some father-daughter experience."

I stared at him. Just stared.

There were at least five different ways I could respond to that, none of them healthy.

"…Fine," I said finally. "Lead the way."

He nodded like I had just agreed to a sacred mission.

"Excellent."

And just like that, we left through the hole in my dorm wall.

The assistants outside saw us.

One of them dropped a clipboard.

Another just slowly backed away like they were witnessing a natural disaster in human form.

Half-destroyed dorm.

Man in a business suit with flip flops.

Me, following behind like this, was normal.

I sighed.

Of course this was my life now.

We got a little distance from Jujutsu High before I saw it.

His car.

A PT Cruiser.

I stopped walking.

"…No way," I muttered.

I turned to him slowly.

My respect for him dropped again. Straight into the negatives.

He didn't even notice.

He just proudly walked to the driver's seat like this was peak engineering.

We got in.

I already accepted my fate at this point.

He quickly started the engine.

Then immediately played modern country pop.

I turned my head slowly toward him.

"…Are you doing this on purpose?"

He kept a straight face.

But his shoulders were shaking slightly.

He was holding back laughter.

This bastard is enjoying this.

I leaned back in my seat and endured it.

We drove.

Somehow.

Eventually, we reached Yokohama again.

Twice in one day.

At this point, I was basically a local.

He opened my door like some gentleman.

I stepped out.

Looked at the city.

"…I was here this morning," I muttered.

Takaba stood behind me in his suit-and-flip-flop combination.

It was still insane.

But I was too tired to argue.

We went into shops after that.

Jewelry stores, random boutiques—he kept pretending to be interested while clearly having no money or intention whatsoever.

At one point, he held up a diamond earring display.

Then—of course—he used his technique.

A second later, I was holding a "diamond."

Except it was… coal.

Just coal. I stared at it.

Then at him.

He looked completely serious.

"Do you know the difference between diamonds and coal, my daughter?" he asked.

I opened my mouth—

He immediately continued.

"Both are carbon. Same atoms. Same structure potential depending on pressure, time, and most importantly the emotional state of matter—"

"That last part is not real," I interrupted.

He ignored me completely.

I just sighed and walked out of the store.

He was still explaining "science" behind me.

We spent a few hours just wandering.

Somehow it wasn't completely unbearable.

Annoying, yes.

But not unbearable.

Eventually, the sun started setting, painting the city orange.

We sat on a bench.

It was quiet for once.

I leaned back as I turned and looked at him.

"You know…" I said suddenly, "You should register as a sorcerer properly. Otherwise, you'll be treated as a curse user."

He glanced at me.

"…What is a curse user?"

I blinked, then I explained it.

Jujutsu society. Rankings. Curse users. Everything.

He listened surprisingly carefully.

Then nodded.

"I see."

He stood up suddenly. Very dramatically.

"I will become a hero who saves people!"

I didn't even react fast enough.

His suit changed into a full Superman outfit.

I just stared.

I was past surprise at this point.

He struck a pose. Then another.

Then—

He flew away.

Actually flew.

"…Of course, he can fly too," I muttered.

His silhouette shrank into the sky.

"What an overpowered cursed technique…"

I paused.

"…Honestly, I felt a bit jealous."

Then reality hit.

He left me. In Yokohama.

"…This guy is going to die someday," I muttered as I began to imagine my hands around his neck.

I pulled out my phone after I calmed down and called Gojo.

He picked up almost immediately.

"Yo," he said casually. "I heard your room got destroyed? Something happen?"

"Yuta happened," I said flatly.

There was a pause.

Then Gojo burst out laughing.

Like, properly laughing.

"Stop laughing," I snapped. "I'm freezing in Yokohama, and you're laughing at your student?"

That shut him up slightly.

"…Wait," he said. "Why are you in Yokohama? Did I leave you there?"

My eye twitched.

"…Can you pick me up?"

"What's in it for me?"

"I'll cook for you."

"Send coordinates."

"Coordinates? HOW am I supposed to know that, I screamed inside my mind

I googled it, searched around, and then found it after some work.

A minute later, I was back at Jujutsu High.

Teleportation never stops being awful.

I stepped out, slightly nauseous.

The dorm building was still under repair.

My room looked like a crime scene.

"…Where am I supposed to sleep?" I muttered.

Then I sighed.

"…Time to bother Yuji."

11 PM.

I stood outside Yuji's door and knocked.

A few noises inside.

Then the door opened.

Yuji blinked.

"…Ikuyo?"

"Hey," I said casually. "My dorm got destroyed. Mind if I stay here? Were you busy? Also, can I share your bed?"

Silence. It was so silent that it was awkward.

"…Come in," he said with a flushed face.

Perfect. I stepped inside.

First thing I saw: chaos.

TV was on, but there was no signal.

Popcorn everywhere.

Blankets half on the floor.

Then I noticed glass vials on the table.

I paused.

"…What are those?"

Yuji followed my gaze.

"…My siblings," he said quietly. "Death paintings."

I stared at him.

"…You just keep those in your room?"

"We got the rest unsealed recently… Choso and I are trying to find hosts. But I don't want them taking innocent bodies…"

He kept talking.

I nodded slowly.

"…If you need help, just ask," I said.

Then a weird noise came from the closet.

I frowned. I walked over and opened it.

And there they were.

Todo and Choso hiding.

There was a paused movie on a small laptop inside the closet, too.

Choso made a small noise.

"…Perfect sister…" he muttered under his breath.

I froze slightly.

"…What?"

I blinked.
