Fortunately for Otto, the sensors in the wall weren't configured to detect something as small as a human. Otherwise, it would be raining bullets at him.
Still, the walls were long enough to tire his scrawny body. He had to take period pauses, as he took advantage of and experimented with his new found powers.
First and foremost, it seemed to work on his entire body, being covered with clothes or not.
Second, it worked just as one would expect, he was able to stand, sit, lay, and even jump, just like he was on the ground. It was like his sense of gravity was completely altered. In one of his experiments, he tried handstands. Only to find that he couldn't, simply because his body was too weak.
This was insanely good! Now, he would have perfect balance in whatever terrain imaginable.
'I am Spider-Man. That's so fucking cool.'
Lastly, he was able to cancel each part individually with just a thought.
Walking alongside the wall. Otto dodged turrets as if they were landmines. Night came by the time he got to the top, drenched in sweat.
The view was… peculiar, to say the least. If it weren't for the squared and colorless buildings, he may have liked it. However, he couldn't deny that it was big.
'A city within a city, as they say.'
Silk would be astonished. That was if she was here.
'Where is she anyway?'
She had crawled into his clothes and disappeared out of nowhere, he couldn't even feel her.
Not that it matters anyway. Looking around he could see that nobody was on the walls, even if there were mountained guns up there.
'Seems like lady luck is smiling at me.' He looked over the wall. 'Now comes the easy part.'
Taking two steps back, he jumped. While falling, he pressed his body as much as he could to the wall, sliding all the way down.
That was the stupidest way to do it though.
While sliding, his clothes were being torn together with his body, which hurt like hell. Also, he had absolutely no way to stop without losing an arm.
So now, he was basically a human torpedo slipping down a giant wall.
'Fucking perfect. Am I really that dumb? I can't be, right?'
He searched his memories for any book of aerodynamics that could help him. To no avail. Thankfully, he remembered something way more useful than aerodynamics, but way harder to use it as well.
In fact, he was almost sure that it wouldn't work, but the ground was getting closer, so there was no other way.
He remembered the way that woman had used Sorcery. He was paralysed at the time, but his Flaw still made him remember.
He thought back to how she had used it to become light, and then, he repeated.
The same tone, the same words, only substituting her True Name—[Sentinel of the Silent]—with the one the spell had said.
His body instantly lighted, only slightly thought.
Not even close to what she had done. Hopefully it will be enough. In any case, he was about to find out.
As the ground grew closer, Otto prepared for the impact, placing his arm in front of him. The impact wasn't loud, it only left a shallow mark on the ground. But a loud crack could be heard, clear and sound. A blinding pain assaulted him as he felt his arms break into thousands of pieces.
He rolled across the ground, finally stopping face down.
"Ugh…"
Everything hurt, his arms weren't working, and his shirt was completely destroyed.
"Fuck."
To be fair, he deserved it.
Who would do something like that? A complete fool, a buffoon, utterly idiotic.
He wanted to rest, maybe take a quick nap. But he couldn't. What if someone passed by and saw him? He would be fucked.
Somehow getting up on his weak feet. And started walking in a random direction.
***
In the novel is described as a big square white building. Basically equal to the majority of them.
So he had to walk around for quite some time. Arms broken, no shirt, hungry, he couldn't be worse.
Eventually, after looking for every window he could find, he finally came across the library.
It was closed, its automatic doors refusing to open, obviously, as it was late into the night.
'Damn,' He sighed, 'Invading the academy and now a library… The crimes keep piling up.'
Because his arms were broken, he had to use his feet. Placing his battered shoes on the wall, he started slowly walking up to the roof.
Luckily, he found an open skylight. Lady luck really was smiling at him today.
Somehow he managed not to break any more bones on his way down.
Everywhere he looked, tall shelves full of paper books stretched into the distance. Between them stood tables meant for study. Illuminated by the light of the moon.
Otto started to walk around, paying close attention to the plates linked to the roof for the study of runes. It didn't take long until he found it.
It wasn't the largest section, in fact, there were only a few books. Which was natural, as it shouldn't be something people study very often. After all, the normal awakened would have The Spell to translate for them.
Without much thought, he raised his right arm, just as he always does. It took him a few seconds to process that his arm wasn't broken anymore.
'What the…'
He looked at his other arm. It was clearly broken. Looking more like jelly instead of an arm.
Yet his right arm had healed in the meantime he had taken to get here? That was strange.
He hadn't felt anything. No sense of comfort, no cold feeling, literally nothing. If not for his muscle memory acting, he probably wouldn't figure it out until he was going to a hospital or something like that.
Still, he wasn't one to complain about a sudden boon like that.
Picking a random book, Otto sat on a nearby chair, making sure the light of the moon was enough for him to be able to read.
'Now… Let's learn how to read, shall we?'
