Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: The Thursday Route. The Sword Points At Something New.

The Thursday route started at the Mapo district northern section.

Standard.

The three flagged storm drain locations from last week.

Two clear. One with minor accumulation. Han-Ho addressed the minor accumulation. Made notes. Filed the all-clear for the two clear locations and a follow-up note for the third.

Aria walked beside him.

The sword at her hip was quiet.

Not dark. Just quiet. The low steady glow of something that was present but not activated.

Han-Ho noted the baseline glow level.

"When it increases," said Han-Ho.

"Tell you immediately," said Aria.

"Yes."

They continued.

The Mapo district did its Thursday morning things around them.

Aria watched the city with the attention of someone who had been in Seoul for two days and was still reading it. The metal boxes. The traffic lights. The specific density of people moving with purpose. The GS25 on every corner.

"Your world," said Aria. "Has these on every corner."

"Convenience stores yes," said Han-Ho.

"They sell everything."

"Most things."

"Honey butter chips."

"Always yes."

Aria looked at the GS25 they were passing.

"In my world," said Aria. "The towns have markets. Once a week. You plan for them. You know what you need before you go." She looked at the GS25. "Here everything is available whenever you need it."

"Yes," said Han-Ho.

"That must change how people think about need," said Aria.

Han-Ho looked at her.

Made a note.

Aria: observation about convenience store infrastructure changing relationship to need. Interesting. Not relevant to route. Filed anyway.

"The drain," said Han-Ho, stopping.

The third flagged location.

He crouched down.

Pressed his hand against it.

The minor accumulation from Tuesday was slightly larger.

He addressed it.

Aria watched him work.

The sword's glow increased slightly.

"Now," said Han-Ho immediately without looking up.

"Yes," said Aria. "The sword is indicating—" She looked at the drain. "Contamination under the drain. Deeper than what you are cleaning."

"How deep," said Han-Ho.

Aria looked at the sword. At the quality of the glow. At the direction.

"Very deep," said Aria. "The sword is pointing down."

Han-Ho stopped cleaning the surface accumulation.

Pressed his hand more firmly.

Read deeper.

There.

Faint. Below the standard mana vein depth. Below the Dragon Vein network.

Something that was not Dragon Vein residue and was not standard Gate contamination.

Different energy type.

The same quality he had felt in the ley line Gate residue at Hongdae.

"Ley line," said Han-Ho.

"Yes," said Aria. "That is what the sword is indicating."

"The ley line boundary thinning," said Han-Ho. "It is not just at the Hongdae Gate location. The boundary is permeable at multiple points. The ley line energy is seeping through wherever the Dragon Vein network is dense."

He made notes.

Filed immediately.

New finding: ley line energy seepage at Dragon Vein dense points. Not limited to Gate formation site. Distributed across Dragon Vein network where boundary permeability is highest. Sword confirmed. Multiple seepage points likely. Thursday route assessment to cover additional sites. Filing urgent.

He sent it.

Looked at Aria.

"The sword," said Han-Ho. "Can it indicate multiple contamination points simultaneously or does it require sequential assessment."

Aria looked at the sword.

"Sequential," said Aria. "It points at the most significant first. Then moves to the next when the first is addressed."

"Good," said Han-Ho. "That is how I work too."

He addressed the ley line seepage at the drain.

The cleaning adjustment from Thursday's ley line Gate residue work applied here.

Follow the channel structure.

The seepage cleared.

The sword moved.

Pointed slightly northwest.

"Northwest," said Aria.

Han-Ho adjusted the route mentally.

"How far," said Han-Ho.

"Two blocks approximately," said Aria. "The intensity suggests moderate seepage. Not as concentrated as the drain but significant."

Han-Ho looked at the route plan.

Made adjustments.

"The route changes today," said Han-Ho.

"Because of the sword," said Aria.

"Because of the new information," said Han-Ho. "The sword provided the information. The route adjusts to the information. The route always adjusts."

He started walking northwest.

Aria walked beside him.

The sword pointed.

Han-Ho followed.

By eleven AM they had identified seven ley line seepage points across the Mapo district.

All of them at Dragon Vein dense points.

All of them with the same energy signature.

All of them cleaned.

Han-Ho had filed seven individual reports and one aggregate assessment report.

Ley line seepage distribution: Mapo district. Seven points confirmed. Pattern consistent with Dragon Vein density map. Highest seepage where Dragon Vein junctions are densest. Sword assessment accurate for all seven — sequential, most significant to least. Ley line cleaning technique effective at seepage points. Clearing seepage does not close the boundary permeability — it only addresses the accumulated residue. Boundary permeability management requires separate approach. Filing separate assessment request.

He filed it.

Looked at the report.

Looked at Aria.

"The seepage is the symptom," said Han-Ho. "The boundary permeability is the cause."

"Yes," said Aria.

"Clearing the seepage is necessary but not sufficient."

"Yes," said Aria.

"The boundary needs to be stabilized."

"How," said Aria.

Han-Ho made a note.

"I need to understand the ley line network first," said Han-Ho. "The Thursday afternoon assessment. The fantasy world side. I need to see the contamination structure of the ley lines before I can determine the stabilization approach."

"You need to go to my world," said Aria.

"Yes," said Han-Ho.

"Thursday afternoon," said Aria.

"Yes," said Han-Ho.

"I will take you through the Gate," said Aria.

Han-Ho looked at the Gate direction.

At the Hongdae underpass two districts away.

At the ley line energy he had been reading through the boundary for weeks.

"The route ends at noon," said Han-Ho.

"I know," said Aria.

"I need to eat before we go."

"Yes," said Aria.

"GS25," said Han-Ho.

"Yes," said Aria.

"Tuna mayo."

"Yes," said Aria.

The sword glowed.

Warmly.

In the direction of the GS25.

"Even the sword agrees," said Aria.

"The sword has good judgment," said Han-Ho.

Min-Seo called at eleven thirty.

"Han-Ho."

"Yes."

"The aggregate report."

"Yes."

"Seven ley line seepage points in the Mapo district."

"Yes."

"All found by the sword."

"Yes."

"The sword has been more useful in one morning than three weeks of equipment team monitoring."

"The sword misses nothing," said Han-Ho. "I told you."

"You told me that to justify bringing Aria on the route."

"Yes," said Han-Ho. "And it was correct."

Min-Seo was quiet for a moment.

"You are going to the fantasy world this afternoon," said Min-Seo.

"Yes."

"Through the Hongdae Gate."

"Yes."

"With Aria."

"Yes."

"Han-Ho."

"Yes."

"That is a different world."

"Yes."

"Not a different district. A different world."

"The ley line network needs assessment," said Han-Ho. "The seepage is coming from there. I need to understand the source. The Thursday afternoon is available."

Min-Seo looked at his phone.

At the seven seepage point reports.

At the aggregate assessment.

At the boundary permeability management request.

"I am coming with you," said Min-Seo.

"You are recovering," said Han-Ho.

"I am recovered," said Min-Seo. "The doctor cleared me last week."

"You have not resumed active duty."

"I am resuming it now," said Min-Seo. "By going to the fantasy world with you on a Thursday afternoon."

Han-Ho made a note.

Min-Seo: cleared by doctor. Resuming active duty. Thursday afternoon fantasy world assessment. Filed.

"Okay," said Han-Ho.

"Okay," said Min-Seo. "I will be at the Hongdae Gate at one PM."

"I will be there at twelve forty five," said Han-Ho. "The route ends at noon. Travel time plus GS25 stop."

"Twelve forty five," said Min-Seo.

"Tuna mayo," said Han-Ho.

"I know," said Min-Seo.

He hung up.

Looked at the middle section of the couch.

At the apartment around it.

At the seven weeks of accumulated extraordinary ordinary life that had built up in the specific warmth of this place.

He was going to a different world this afternoon.

For the Thursday route assessment.

He had Re-Awakened twice.

He had destroyed a mountain.

He had forty million views.

He was going to the fantasy world for the Thursday afternoon ley line assessment because Han-Ho had available slots.

Some things were just what they were.

He put his shoes on.

At noon Han-Ho finished the last route section.

Cleaned the final Mapo district flagged location.

Stood up.

Made the completion note.

Thursday route: complete. Seven ley line seepage points addressed. Aggregate report filed. Boundary permeability assessment request filed. Route adjustment documented. New contamination type integrated into standard monitoring protocol. Thursday route revised accordingly.

He closed the notebook.

Looked at Aria.

"Ready," said Han-Ho.

Aria looked at the sword.

The sword pointed.

At the Hongdae Gate.

"Ready," said Aria.

They walked to the GS25.

At the GS25 Cho Hyun was on shift.

He looked at Han-Ho.

Looked at Aria.

Looked at the sword.

"New one," said Cho Hyun.

"Fantasy world," said Han-Ho.

"She was here Tuesday," said Cho Hyun.

"Yes," said Han-Ho.

"With the sword."

"Yes."

Cho Hyun looked at the sword.

The sword glowed at him.

"It keeps doing that," said Cho Hyun.

"The sword indicates significance," said Aria. "It does this when something matters."

Cho Hyun looked at his register.

At the GS25 around him.

At the honey butter chips display that he had been restocking for months because Han-Ho's various companions kept depleting the stock.

"Does it indicate when things matter in general," said Cho Hyun. "Or only when things matter to the prophecy."

Aria looked at the sword.

"I am not entirely sure those are different," said Aria.

Cho Hyun considered this.

"Okay," said Cho Hyun.

He scanned the tuna mayo kimbap.

Scanned the honey butter chips.

Added a third kimbap.

"For the fantasy world trip," said Cho Hyun.

Han-Ho looked at him.

"Min-Seo will be hungry when you get back," said Cho Hyun. "He always is after something significant."

Han-Ho looked at the third kimbap.

Made a note.

Cho Hyun: anticipated Min-Seo hunger post-significant-event. Third kimbap. Correct. Filed.

He paid.

They sat outside.

Ate.

The sword glowed steadily.

In the direction of the Hongdae Gate.

In the direction of the fantasy world.

In the direction of the Thursday afternoon ley line assessment that was going to tell Han-Ho whether the ley line network needed cleaning and what that cleaning would require and how to fit it into the route.

Han-Ho ate his kimbap.

Made notes about the afternoon assessment approach.

The city did its Thursday lunch things around them.

Some Thursdays were like this.

Just bigger than usual.
