Saturday cleanup monitoring at seven fifty eight AM.
Han-Ho arrived in two vests.
The S-Ranks arrived in the usual order.
Oh Kyung-Soo looked at the two vests.
Said nothing about the two vests.
Said: "Good morning Han-Ho."
"Good morning Oh Kyung-Soo," said Han-Ho.
Baek Sung-Il looked at the two vests.
"Two vests," said Baek Sung-Il.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"For the pockets."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"The first vest filled."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"I destroyed a dam," said Baek Sung-Il.
Han-Ho made a note.
Baek Sung-Il: noted the two vests. Cited the dam. Context: comparative scale of achievement. Filed.
Baek Sung-Il sat at his monitoring position.
Jin Tae-Yang arrived.
He looked at the two vests.
Then at Dareum.
Dareum was at forty centimeters from Han-Ho.
Visible in a way that was still new.
The light quality.
The hard-won clean brightness.
"Jin Tae-Yang," said Han-Ho.
"Yes," said Jin Tae-Yang.
"The food."
"Yes," said Jin Tae-Yang. "I was going to ask—" He looked at Dareum. "Does it eat."
"No," said Han-Ho.
"None of the new ones eat," said Jin Tae-Yang. "Jeongjeong does not eat. The sprite does not eat. The shard does not eat. The notebook does not eat."
"Correct," said Han-Ho.
"I still bring enough for the group," said Jin Tae-Yang.
"The group that eats appreciates it," said Han-Ho.
"Of course," said Jin Tae-Yang.
He set up the food.
The soup for the old man.
The same soup.
Thirteenth consecutive week.
The old man ate it.
Did not comment on it being the same soup.
Just ate it.
Jin Tae-Yang was satisfied.
The cleanup monitoring proceeded.
Standard.
Better than standard.
The Dragon Vein flow data was at its highest recorded level.
The between-layer survey was showing almost no new deposits.
The eastern section was completely clear.
The western section deposits had been addressed Monday.
The central section was clean.
Han-Ho filed the assessment.
Dragon Vein network: peak recorded quality. Between-layer deposits: essentially clear. Standard network flow: highest measured. Dareum's arrival has contributed additional clean energy to the ambient network. Shard contribution ongoing. Combined effect: network quality approximately thirty percent above activation baseline. Filed.
He filed it.
Looked at the river.
At Cheongi.
Cheongi made a sound.
"Cheongi," said Han-Ho.
Yes.
"The network quality."
Yes. I feel it.
"And Cheongwon."
Yes. Cheongwon feels it too.
"Cheongwon is—" Han-Ho listened to the next sound. "Cheongwon is—" He made a note. "Cheongwon says: this is closer to the beginning than anything since the beginning."
Min-Seo, beside him, was quiet.
"Closer to the beginning," said Min-Seo.
"Before the blockage," said Han-Ho. "Before the contamination. Before the twenty thousand years." He looked at the river. "Cheongwon has been in the dimensional space since before all of that. It knows what the beginning felt like. And it says this is closer to it than anything since."
Min-Seo looked at the river.
At Cheongi.
At the Dragon Vein network flowing clean beneath them.
At the Saturday morning bank assembled.
"Of course it is," said Min-Seo.
Not in the bag chorus way.
In his own way.
The way he said of course when it was true and he needed to say it.
At ten thirty seven AM something happened that had not happened before.
Not threatening.
Just unprecedented.
The constellation — Lee Soo-Bin's constellation — communicated during the day.
Not at six AM at a residue site.
During the Saturday river bank monitoring.
Lee Soo-Bin felt it and looked up.
"Han-Ho," said Lee Soo-Bin.
"Yes."
"The constellation."
"Yes."
"It is communicating now," said Lee Soo-Bin. "During the bank session. It has never done this before."
"What is it saying," said Han-Ho.
Lee Soo-Bin listened.
The S-Ranks were all watching him.
"It says—" Lee Soo-Bin paused. "It says all five worlds are sending something today."
The bank was quiet.
"All five," said Han-Ho.
"Yes. The very old world. The very large world. The very strange world. The world that was trying to become something it was not. And—" He paused. "And the fifth."
"What is the fifth," said Han-Ho.
"The constellation says—" Lee Soo-Bin was quiet for a moment. "The constellation says: the fifth world has been watching the whole time. It has not sent anything yet. It has been watching. And today it is sending something too."
"What is the fifth world," said Han-Ho.
"The constellation does not have a description for it," said Lee Soo-Bin. "It says: you will recognize it when it arrives."
Han-Ho made a note.
Filed it.
Pressed his hand against the bank surface.
Read the Dragon Vein network.
The five approaching energies.
All different.
All distinct.
All converging on the river bank.
The very old world: a deep slow energy, ancient beyond anything except Cheongwon, moving with the patience of something that has existed since before most worlds.
The very large world: a warm vast energy, the quality of the entity's gift, source-quality, open.
The very strange world: the approaching quality, multiple Jeongjeong-like presences, the specific energy of many things all trying to become cleaner.
The world that was trying to become something it was not: Dareum's quality multiplied, many Dareum-like presences, all free, all approaching.
And the fifth.
Han-Ho read the fifth.
Made a very specific note.
"Han-Ho," said Min-Seo.
"Yes."
"The fifth world."
"Yes."
"You know what it is."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"How."
"The energy signature," said Han-Ho.
"What does it feel like," said Min-Seo.
Han-Ho made a note.
Filed it.
"It feels like home," said Han-Ho.
Everyone looked at him.
"Not my home specifically," said Han-Ho. "Not Earth. Not Seoul. Not Mapo-gu." He pressed his hand more firmly. "It feels like the quality that was in the Dragon Vein network before the blockage. The quality that has been returning as the network clears. The quality that the very strange world was trying to reproduce. That Dareum is approaching." He looked at the river. "It feels like what the network is becoming."
"What world has that quality," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"The constellation said we will recognize it," said Han-Ho.
"You recognize it," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"What is it," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
Han-Ho made a note.
"I do not know what to call it," said Han-Ho. "But I know the quality. It is the quality I have been reading in clean surfaces for ten years. The quality that Moru's note said was different from achieved clean. Not the source energy. Not the original. Not the approaching." He paused. "The quality of something that has always been clean and does not know it is clean because clean is what it is."
The bank was very quiet.
"Han-Ho," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"Yes."
"That quality."
"Yes."
"You have it," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho. "And the fifth world also has it."
"Another world," said Oh Kyung-Soo. "With the same quality as you."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"Has always been clean."
"Yes."
"Has not known it is clean because clean is what it is."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"And it has been watching," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho. "Since the beginning apparently."
"The constellation said we will recognize it."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"Why did it wait until today to send something," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
Han-Ho made a note.
"I think—" He paused. "I think it was waiting to see if we would do it."
"Do what," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"The cleaning," said Han-Ho. "The other worlds needed the cleaning. They came because they needed something. The very old world was recalibrating. The very large world was expressing gratitude. The very strange world was studying. Dareum's world was releasing." He looked at the river. "The fifth world did not need any of those things. It was already clean. It was watching to see if the work would actually be done."
"A test," said Min-Seo.
"Not a test," said Han-Ho. "An assessment. The way you assess a drain before you clean it. The fifth world was assessing."
"And today it decided the assessment was complete," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"Because all five worlds are sending something."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"What does the fifth world send," said Oh Kyung-Soo.
Before Han-Ho could answer the Dragon Vein network pulsed.
Not the accumulated-contamination-releasing pulse.
Not the activation pulse.
Not the ley line network self-activation pulse.
Something different.
The pulse of five worlds simultaneously sending something through the Dragon Vein network to one point on the river bank.
All five at once.
Han-Ho felt all five arrive.
The very old world's contribution: a deep resonance in the Dragon Vein network. Not an entity. Not a shard. A quality. The specific quality of something very old settling more deeply into the network. Making the network more stable. More permanent.
The very large world's contribution: additional source energy. Not a shard. A flow. Clean source energy adding to the network's quality. The entity's world continuing what the shard had begun.
The very strange world's contribution: multiple small Jeongjeong-like presences. Dozens. Moving through the network. Each one approaching. Each one becoming. Each one studying and improving. The very strange world sending its students.
Dareum's world's contribution: more Dareum-like presences. Every one of them free. Every one of them approaching. The world that had been trying to become something for twenty thousand years sending what it had become.
And the fifth world's contribution.
Han-Ho read it last.
Made a note.
The note said: The fifth world's contribution is not an entity or a flow or a quality or a presence. The fifth world's contribution is acknowledgement. The specific quality of something that has been watching and has seen the work done correctly and is saying: yes. That. Exactly that. Filed.
He filed it.
Looked at the river bank.
At all of it assembled.
At the Dragon Vein network carrying five worlds' contributions simultaneously.
At Cheongi in the river.
At Cheongwon in the dimensional space feeling this.
At Jeongjeong at twenty centimeters still working.
At Dareum at thirty centimeters still approaching.
At the new arrivals from the very strange world and Dareum's world distributing through the network.
At the fifth world's acknowledgement quiet in everything.
At the S-Ranks.
At the old man.
At Wei Junhao.
At Hwang Chulsoo.
At Baek Suri.
At Aria with the sword at full glow.
At General Ashmark eating honey butter chips.
At Min-Seo.
At the two cacti.
At the Moru plush Baek Suri had brought.
At the food Jin Tae-Yang had brought.
At the same soup for the old man.
At all of it.
Han-Ho pressed his hand against the bank one more time.
Read everything.
Made a note.
The note was very short.
He held it for a long time.
Then he put it in the second vest pocket.
Twenty three notes.
He looked at Min-Seo.
Min-Seo was looking at the river.
At the Dragon Vein network flowing underneath it.
Carrying five worlds.
"Han-Ho," said Min-Seo.
"Yes."
"The fifth world said yes."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"That. Exactly that."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"To what."
Han-Ho looked at the river bank.
At the route that was still scheduled for Monday.
At the Thursday afternoon that was still one session at a time.
At the drain at junction fourteen that was clean.
At the route that had been running for ten years and was going to keep running.
"To this," said Han-Ho.
Min-Seo looked at what this was.
The bank.
The group.
The network.
The clean.
The work.
"Of course," said Min-Seo.
In his own way.
The true way.
"Of course," said everything.
The river bank on a Saturday morning carrying five worlds saying yes.
That was enough.
That was more than enough.
That was exactly what it had always been trying to be.
