Chapter 40 - The Awakening of the Seed

The world seemed to fracture into a thousand jagged pieces. As Han sprinted back toward the village, the very air felt thick, like he was running through chest-high water. Behind him, the forest of Jalpura groaned, the ancient trees bowing under the pressure of a mana-storm they hadn't felt in centuries.

But Han didn't look back. His eyes were locked on the pillar of golden light erupting from his family home—a pillar so bright it made the morning sun look like a dim candle.

"Warning!" the System screeched, the red interface now flickering with static. "Mana-Density in Sector 01 exceeding safe parameters. Source: The Origin-Seed. Connection Status: Synchronizing with Biological Host 'Ishaan'."

"Faster! I need to be faster!" Han roared. He felt the obsidian mark on his right arm pulse with a violent, violet heat. Without thinking, he pushed his remaining mana into his legs.

"Skill Activated: Void-Step (Incomplete). Movement Speed increased by 300%. Warning: Physical strain reaching critical levels."

The ground blurred. He wasn't just running anymore; he was a streak of dark lightning cutting through the scorched fields. Behind him, he could hear the faint hum of energy—Elina. She was following him, her emerald wings of light flickering unevenly. Her face was a mask of cold, mechanical focus, her usual warmth replaced by a haunting glow that confirmed his father's warning.

Is she really an automaton? A sentry? The thought stung Han's heart more than the physical pain in his lungs, but he buried it. His son came first.

As he reached the village perimeter, he skidded to a halt. The villagers were all on the ground, not because they were kneeling, but because the sheer gravity of the golden light was pinning them down. His house was at the center of a swirling vortex of leaves, soil, and golden sparks.

On the porch, his mother lay unconscious, protected by a bubble of shimmering energy. But in the center of the yard stood Ishaan.

The small boy was floating several inches off the ground. His eyes, once a bright brown, were now swirling pools of molten gold. From his chest, translucent roots made of pure light extended downward, burrowing into the earth of Jalpura. The tiny golden sapling he had grown earlier was now a ten-foot-tall ethereal tree, its branches weaving around the boy like a protective cocoon.

"Ishaan!" Han screamed, lunging forward.

But an invisible wall of force slammed into Han, throwing him back twenty feet. He crashed into a stone trough, the wood splintering under the impact.

"Access Denied," a voice echoed. It wasn't the System's voice. it was deeper, more ancient. "The Sovereignty must be passed. The Old Flesh must make way for the New Bloom."

"Like hell he will!" Han snarled, spitting out blood. He stood up, his obsidian arm glowing with a terrifying, dark brilliance. "He's my son! He's not your 'host' or your 'bloom'!"

"Han, stop!" Elina landed beside him, her feet barely touching the ground. "If you attack the barrier, the feedback will kill him. The Seed is merging with his soul. It's a process that began the moment he was born in this soil."

Han turned on her, his eyes blazing with violet fire. "You knew? My father said you were a Sentry. That you were sent to watch the Seed. Did you know this would happen to him?"

Elina didn't flinch. Her amber eyes met his, and for a second, he saw a flicker of that human pain again. "I knew the Seed would wake. I didn't know it would choose him so soon. Han, I am a Sentry, yes... but my directive was overridden the day I held him in my arms for the first time. I am not your enemy."

"Prove it," Han hissed. "Help me get him back."

Before Elina could respond, the sky darkened. The 'BONG' sound returned, but this time, it was followed by a sound like tearing metal. Three massive portals opened directly above the village.

"Alert! High-Altitude Rift detected. Enemy Class: Void-Harvesters. Objective: Capture the Origin-Seed."

Out of the portals dropped creatures that looked like metallic vultures with wings made of jagged blades. They didn't target Han or Elina. They dove straight for the golden cocoon surrounding Ishaan.

"They're trying to steal him!" Han's voice broke.

He didn't wait for a plan. He reached deep into his soul, touching the very bottom of his mana-pool. He felt the 'Red Zone' disappear, replaced by a terrifying, empty blackness.

"Forbidden Skill Initiated: Soul-Soil Integration. Mana Level: 0%. Life Force Consumption: 15%."

Han's obsidian arm began to grow. It didn't just get bigger; it transformed into a massive, jagged claw made of void-infused wood and stone. He slammed it into the earth.

"Get... away... from my son!"

The earth responded. Huge spikes of obsidian-hardened roots erupted from the ground, soaring into the sky like anti-aircraft spears. Two of the metallic vultures were impaled instantly, their black oil raining down like toxic blood.

But the third one was faster. It swung its bladed wing, slicing through Han's protective roots and reaching for the golden boy.

Suddenly, a streak of emerald light intercepted the vulture. Elina had transformed. Her armor was no longer leather and cloth; it was a sleek, iridescent white plating that hummed with a high-frequency vibration. In her hand was a spear of pure, condensed mana.

She drove the spear through the vulture's core, her movements so fast they were a blur. "Threat neutralized," she whispered, her voice sounding synthesized and hollow.

But the golden light around Ishaan was turning red. The boy let out a scream that tore through Han's soul.

"Baba! It's cold! Make it stop!"

Han realized the System wasn't just 'synchronizing.' It was rewriting Ishaan's DNA to become the core of a new world-tree. The boy was being erased to save the planet.

"System!" Han screamed into his mind. "Transfer the synchronization to me! Use me as the host!"

"Request Denied. User 'Han' is contaminated by the Void-Mark. Incompatible with Origin-Seed."

"Then use the Mark to bridge it!" Han argued, his mind racing. "I am a Harvester! I decide what gets harvested and what stays!"

"Analyzing Proposal..."

Han didn't wait for the analysis. He stepped into the golden light. This time, he didn't use force. He used his love. He remembered the feeling of Ishaan's small hand in his when they walked through the potato fields. He remembered the smell of the tiffin he delivered to the school. He poured those memories into his obsidian arm and reached into the cocoon.

The golden energy burned him. His skin started to crack, glowing embers flying off his body.

"User Integrity: 40%... 30%... Warning: Total Biological Collapse in 60 seconds."

"Han, you'll die!" Elina cried out, her mechanical wings beating frantically as she fought off another wave of scouts.

"I don't care!" Han gritted his teeth, his vision turning white.

He grabbed Ishaan's hand. The moment their skin touched, the golden light and the violet void-energy clashed. It was like a sun was being born in Han's backyard.

"Synchronization Redirected. New Host: The Father-Son Dyad. Skill Evolution: The Eternal Bond."

The explosion was silent. A wave of pure, white energy swept out from the house, traveling across all of Jalpura. The charcoal mist was instantly purified. The black vines turned into lush, green grass. The remaining metallic monsters were turned into dust.

When the light faded, Han was lying on his back in the mud. His obsidian arm was back to its normal size, but it was no longer just black; it had golden veins running through it like a map of the stars.

Ishaan was curled up in his chest, sleeping peacefully. His eyes were closed, and the golden glow had faded, leaving only a small, leaf-shaped birthmark on the back of his neck.

Han felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see Elina. Her white armor was gone, and she looked exhausted, her human form barely holding together.

"Is he...?" Han whispered.

"He's safe, Han," Elina said, a single tear tracing a path through the dust on her cheek. "But you've done something the System never intended. You've shared the Seed. You are no longer just the Harvester. You are the Guardian."

Han looked toward the sky. The portals were gone, but he knew they would be back. And he knew his father was out there, watching from that golden eye.

"Status Update," the System whispered, its voice now sounding strangely respectful. "Title Earned: The Eternal Guardian. Level: 20 (Max for Tier 1). Volume 1: The Sowing... Completed."

Han closed his eyes, holding his son tight. He didn't care about titles or levels. For the first time in weeks, the air in Jalpura felt clean. But as he drifted toward unconsciousness, a final message appeared in a deep, golden box:

"The Harvest is over. The Evolution begins. Welcome to Tier 2, Sovereign."

"Volume 1 Finale! Han has crossed the threshold! The 'Eternal Bond' has been forged, but Tier 2 brings even deadlier challenges.
