Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 The Templeton Family's Bane

Hearing the anger in Lucas's words.

Taryn walked over, took the man's arm, and said softly, "What's wrong? Is Sister Nikki throwing a tantrum?"

She gently bit her lip and said with a wounded expression, "It's all my fault. I made Sister Nikki angry, I..."

Her eyes reddened.

Lucas's heart softened instantly, and he turned to look at Taryn and said, "It's none of your business."

Then his voice suddenly turned cold: "She's not behaving like a mother. The child is sick, and she still has the mood to throw a tantrum."

"But..."

"No buts, just stay here. I've already given her the order; she'll be there in two hours," Lucas said.

Ben's fever had subsided, but he was still a little weak. He was dozing off, holding Taryn's hand, and murmuring, "Mommy, Mommy."

A cold glint flashed in Taryn's eyes as she gripped Ben's hand tightly.

Despite all the compromises I've made, this child still sides with Nikki.

At this moment, Lucas walked over.

Taryn quickly forced a smile: "Ben's fever has subsided."

She raised her hand and gently stroked Ben's tender face, her expression filled with heartache.

Lucas frowned, wondering what Taryn's identity was. She was a top student at New York Medical University, and in between her research projects, she was willing to be an early childhood educator for her son, and she was devoted to the child.

What is Nikki, as the biological mother, doing? It's been almost two hours, and she still hasn't shown up.

At this time, the doorbell rang.

Lucas's face turned extremely gloomy. He pricked up his ears to listen to the sound of Aunt Shopia going to open the door, and was about to burst out with a lot of words he had been holding back.

"Oh, Second Miss, what brings you here?"

Aunt Shopia's voice rang out.

Justine Templeton sneered: "Can't I come?"

Aunt Shopia smiled awkwardly: "That's not what I meant."

Justine snorted. She knew that this Aunt Shopia had always been good to Nikki, but she didn't like Nikki at all. In her eyes, Nikki was not good enough for her brother Lucas.

She was even less worthy of marrying into the family Templeton, one of the four great families of New York. If it weren't for her grandfather's insistence, this orphan would never have had such luck in eight lifetimes.

Therefore, it was only natural for Nikki to serve as a slave in the Templeton family.

She once suggested that her eldest brother fire all the servants and let Nikki work as a servant, so that she wouldn't enjoy a life of luxury in the family Templeton for nothing.

Later, her grandfather found out and gave her a good scolding, which made her hate Nikki even more.

Knowing that the second young lady didn't like her, Aunt Shopia left the living room and went upstairs to clean the master bedroom.

She noticed some scattered documents on the bed, so she casually tidied them up and put them in a drawer.

When Justine saw Taryn, her eyes crinkled with a smile, and she ran over to her, calling out, "Sister Taryn."

Taryn smiled and said, " Justine, what brings you here?"

She looked every bit the lady of the house.

"I heard you were here, so I came to check on you."

Taryn was her senior, and legends about her circulated throughout the university.

Her research topics and papers are top-notch in the industry. Justine has a strong admiration for strength. After Taryn reappeared, she admired and worshipped her. Moreover, when Taryn learned that she was Lucas's sister, she showed her all kinds of gentleness.

Justine continued to look around, hoping to see Nikki make a sarcastic remark, but the woman did not appear.

At this moment, she saw her brother's expression and asked in surprise, "What's wrong? Did Nikki upset you again? This woman is a jinx to our family Templeton."

Lucas's face twitched uncontrollably; he had just thought Nikki had returned.

Without even checking the time, she knew two hours had passed, and this woman still hadn't appeared. This was outrageous. Taryn smiled and said, " Justine, don't talk nonsense. It's Ben who's sick, that's why your brother is in a bad mood. It has nothing to do with Sister Nikki."

"Ben is sick? Sister Taryn, could it be that you're taking care of him?"

 Justine exclaimed exaggeratedly.

Tarynrou smiled gently and said, "I liked Ben, too."

"Sister Taryn. You're too easy to talk to. You're the daughter of the Clark family." Justine frowned.

"Don't worry, Ben's fever has gone down, it's just a minor cold. By the way, how's that Armani suit I gave you last time?"

"Sister Taryn, that Armani skincare set is amazing. Look how smooth my face is now."

The two women chattered excitedly about cosmetics. Lucas's face darkened, and he gritted his teeth before going to the balcony.

Nikki had just arrived at the Washington Medical Research Institute.

Just as she stepped through the gate, the phone rang. It was Lucas.

She hung up the phone.

Less than a second later, the phone rang again, and she hung up once more.

Lucas was so angry that his face turned pale, and he paced back and forth on the balcony.

In the past, Nikki would directly express any unhappiness she had, complaining and grumbling about everything. But now she has learned not to answer the phone.

He was so angry that he plopped down on the sofa, radiating cold air.

Justine said, "Sister Taryn, Armani suits are limited editions. You're really capable of getting them. It's a pity you're not my sister-in-law."

Taryn glanced at Lucas secretly: " Justine, don't say that, your sister-in-law will be unhappy if she hears it."

"Hmph, I don't care if that woman is happy or not. She's never good enough for my brother."

Lucas looked at her darkly: "You're very noisy, you know? If there's nothing else, you can go back now."

It was clearly an order to leave.

Justine knew her brother was in a bad mood, so she didn't dare to say anything and said goodbye to Taryn.

After a while, Taryn sat down next to Lucas, leaned forward, and placed her hands on his thighs, asking, "What's wrong, Lucas? Is it Nikki...?"

"I'd like to see how long she can stay hard." Lucas interrupted her, as if the name had broken his defenses.

Medical University Research Institute.

"Nikki, you're finally back," Gabe exclaimed excitedly, his words tumbling out incoherently.

Although I knew Nikki was coming back, I still couldn't help but get excited when I saw her in person.

Several young men gathered around, their eyes wide with surprise.

Nikki possessed a gentle and refined demeanor, with delicate features and fair skin, as if she were a ray of light illuminating the research lab.

In the corner, an elderly man with white hair took off his glasses.

Nikki choked up and said, "Teacher Paul."

Nikki.

"You, are you really Nikki?"

"It's me." Nikki walked over and grabbed Paul's hand.

Gabe smiled and said, "Nikki, Professor Paul is already a special-grade professor. He will be in charge of our research project."

"Teacher Paul, I'm sorry, I..." Nikki burst into tears before she could finish speaking.

Seven years have passed, a full seven years. She wasted seven years of her youth, abandoning everything she loved, and what did she get in return? Her husband's dislike and her son's contempt.

"That's Senior Nikki. Senior Gabe, she's the genius Professor Paul was talking about." A boy's eyes suddenly lit up.
