Chapter 4 - Already Level 2! Abusing 100% Drop Rate

[You have equipped Basic Naginata]

Faust quite liked the naginata as a weapon. It combined the best parts of having a sword and spear into one weapon.

With a hard sweep of the weapon, he cleared a foot of grass in front of him. He refamiliarised himself with the weapon, spinning it around him and lashing out with steady strikes.

This brings back a lot of fun memories.

He easily found a group of slimes in a patch of mowed grass, slowly eating and growing bigger.

He chose the biggest one, because it had the most combat power, and because there weren't as many other slimes around it.

Without much flourish or hesitation, he drove the naginata into the slime's shiny, blue body and pierced the core smoothly. The slime shuddered briefly, but turned into a puddle the next second.

[You have killed "Blue Slime" and gained 5 experience points.]

[Rewards have been placed in your equipped Spatial Bag.]

For a second he wondered if the reward had been affected by his system, but instead resolved himself to killing more slimes and checking later.

It was easy work and actually a bit fun. The threat of death with a single missed stab made every movement clearer and urgent.

Against one slime he missed the core and had to dash back when a spray of acid filled the air.

The slimes were slow until that acid was released. The moment they sensed the smell they swarmed and dissolved the area in seconds.

"Haha."

Faust couldn't stop his nervous laughter as he watched the slimes pile on. This place was a bit of a bad spot now so he went to hunt other slimes till these ones calmed down.

Ignoring the system's notifications, he dedicated himself to hunt twenty more slimes to complete get to level 2.

When he finally finished the system chimed twice.

[You have killed "Blue Slime" and gained 5 experience points.]

[Rewards have been placed in your equipped Spatial Bag.]

[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 2!]

[You have gained 5 points in all attributes, and 5 free points to distribute.]

"Finally," Faust said with a smile. He willed his status to appear. He felt a rush of energy with the level up. All that work was suddenly very worth his time.

[Name: Faust Havlicek]

[Level: 2 (0/150)]

[Constitution: 8 > 13]

[Strength: 8 > 13]

[Agility: 8 > 13]

[Spirit: 7 > 12]

[Schema: The Perfect Match]

[Schema Abilities: Talent Replication, Instance Replication]

[Skills: Stealth Lv1, Appraise Lv1]

[Combat Power: 31 > 51]

[Origin Coins: 0 > 100]

[System: 10x Rewards]

He flexed his fingers and could really feel it. He was almost twice as strong as he had been before. With a little hop, he rose high into the air, and the landing barely stressed his greater constitution.

He made a few runs like he was a Wide Receiver and the wind roared in his ears. Each stride carried him much farther.

Faust started laughing uncontrollably. It was amazing. Just amazing. He felt rejuvenated despite the minutes spent hunting twenty slimes. He wanted to hunt more right now. He wanted to get to level three right now.

His coins had also increased alot…

"System, can you show me the rewards of my last kills?" He wondered aloud. His spatial bag didn't feel any heavier.

[You have killed 20x "Blue Slime" and gained 100 experience points.]

[Origin coins: 100.]

[Blue Slime Core x20]

[10x Blue Slime Essence: Consuming will increase Constitution by 2.]

[6x Blue Slime Acid: Burns very quickly. Can only be neutralised with water magic.]

Faust grinned. It's not like he was surprised. It must have worked on a loot table system. Everything the slime could drop increased the more he killed to a certain point. That was why the drops reduced as they went on.

A slime was always going to drop Origin coins and a core. But for every two slimes he killed, the second had a decent chance of dropping Essence. And for every three slimes he killed, the third had a small chance of dropping acid.

But with 100% Drop Rate, those small chances became certainties.

So killing as many monsters of a type was the best method to maximise the system

He left cores and the acids in his bag for now, their uses weren't apparent yet. But he adjusted the sling bag forward and pulled out three of the Slime Essences without searching.

The Spatial Bag immediately opened the section where his Essences were and he could feel the other ten in the deep bag.

The Blue Slime Essence was bright blue and gelatinous. They didn't look very appetising but at least interesting.

"Do I have to eat them physically," he mused.

He asked the system to consume all ten of the Essences, but nothing happened. With a sigh he just started popping them into his mouth like cheap drugs, swallowing without thinking. They didn't have any taste, thankfully.

Ding!

[You have consumed "Blue Slime Essence" and gained 2 Constitution.]

[You have consumed "Blue Slime Essence" and gained 2 Constitution.]

[You have consumed...]

He didn't stop to check his stats and just focused on popping his unregulated steroids. The thought made him laugh and almost choke on one.

Once he was done he checked his stats.

 [Constitution: 13 > 33]

He punched himself casually and actually winced a little. His arm didn't hurt, rather it was his fist that stung a little.

[You have 5 undistributed points]

"Thank you for reminding me. Not that I forgot…"

He allocated the points into Agility and Strength. Staying quick on his feet and deadly was his whole ideology when it came to games. Beating souls-like games with no hits was the only thing that kept him sane when he broke his arm in a judo contest.

[Strength: 13 > 16]

[Agility: 13 > 15]

At this point in the game eager players would leave slimes behind to find stronger enemies. More experienced gamers however knew you had to farm until a reason to leave came.

And besides I want to see the rewards I get as I go up on the loot table. I'm at twenty slimes now, but what will I get after killing 30 of these guys? And what after 40? 50? 60?

100?

Ok, junior genocider, calm down.

But he eyed the cute peaceful slimes greedily. Maybe genocide wasn't so bad If he got something amazing.

So he returned to killing slimes. His strikes were faster and more accurate. He was less scared of the acid spray now, but not dumb enough to let that make him complacent.

[You have killed "Blue Slime" and gained 3 experience points.]

[Rewards have been placed in your equipped Spatial Bag.]

The experience dipped but that was to be expected. The higher his level got the harder it would be to gain meaningful levels from weaker enemies.

He ignored it and focused on killing slimes till he got to Level 3.

50 of the little guys. He had to go out and search for them through the fields. Sometimes he heard other people in the grass and clicked his tongue.

The other players were catching on and shedding their fear. This place would be swarmed soon.

I need to be faster.

[You have killed "Blue Slime" and gained 5 experience points.]

[Rewards have been placed in your equipped Spatial Bag.]

After killing fifty slimes, Faust finally leveled up, and checked his status.

His smile grew even wider.
