The weather this winter has been quite nice, just like Ed's mood. Yesterday's cake was delicious, but today's aftereffects are showing.
Breakfast was already laid out on the long table in the castle hall in the morning, and Ed and his two companions were eating it.
"Does Adelaide need help?"
Adelaide was trying hard to put a spoonful of porridge into her mouth, but her trembling hands made the porridge spill everywhere, and she just couldn't get it into her mouth.
"No, Master." Adelaide was, after all, a girl, and she couldn't let her master feed her porridge. She still had her own principles.
So Adelaide switched to her other hand, which was also shaking badly, and she could only manage to drink the porridge by holding the spoon with both hands.
Carly, on the other hand, is much smarter. Indeed, she has always been a smart child.
The bowl was placed on the table, and without lifting a finger, one could simply reach out and drink, though the action was somewhat strange.
Carly was satisfied after drinking the delicious porridge: "What a pleasant morning!" She didn't complain at all, but instead marveled at the beauty of life.
Carly has been living such a comfortable life here. She doesn't think about anything all day; she has plenty to eat and drink, and people to play with. She even feels like she's going to become fat. But who cares? She loves her life now; she'll leave the thinking stuff to others!
Because she wasn't using her hands, Carly drank very quickly, finishing the pea porridge in front of her in just a few bites.
Ed didn't want to say anything at first, but seeing how comfortable Carly looked, he couldn't help but want to say a few words.
"Carly, if you drink so fast, be careful tomorrow the peas will still be the same peas."
Carly was a little confused by Ed's words. What peas?
"Lord Ed, are we going to have pea porridge again tomorrow morning?" Carly probably didn't drink much dry pea porridge before, so she couldn't understand Ed's meaning.
Adelaide, standing next to her, was already secretly laughing. She didn't dare laugh out loud at this question, after all, she was still just a little girl.
"No, tomorrow's breakfast should be oatmeal." Ed didn't want to say anything more; he hadn't finished his pea porridge yet.
After all, this topic is somewhat like two flies eating feces discussing whether or not to talk about such a disgusting topic while eating.
Well, that analogy doesn't work; Ed disgusted himself with it.
Carly was taken aback. Oatmeal porridge tomorrow? How did you know? Huh? Carly seemed to have thought of something.
Carly glanced at Adelaide, who was covering her mouth and chuckling, and she knew she was right.
Tomorrow will probably still be pea porridge; Lord Ed is always quite mischievous sometimes.
"Lord Eddard, pea porridge is actually a good choice, although it's a bit hard."
"Carly, come here." Adelaide didn't want to hear any more of this.
Carly obediently moved closer.
"ah!"
Carly's cheeks flushed quickly, and she returned to her seat. She didn't say anything more, just lowered her head as if she was thinking about something.
Ed chuckled inwardly at Carly's expression. He decided to give her a little科普 (popular science explanation) to ease the awkward atmosphere.
"Carly, if what we're eating is too hard, we need to eat slowly. Especially these little beans. If we eat them too fast, they might sprout new peas in some soil next year."
"Yes, Lord Ed, I understand now. I will be more careful in the future." Carly was quite clever, though there were occasional exceptions.
"Well, Carly, I'm glad you understand. I hope you didn't mind what happened earlier."
Ed saw that she was looking down and seemed worried, so he comforted her.
"It's alright, Lord Ed, I was just counting how many I didn't chew properly."
