Ed didn't know whether Carly was happy or not; he slept well last night because everything in the territory had been arranged.
He opened his eyes and saw streaks of white on the distant mountainside through the small window.
He got out of bed and went to the window. The air was a little chilly, but very comfortable. He stretched out his hands and let the tiny snowflakes gently fall onto his palms.
It's snowing again!
Ed entered the hall, where the fireplace crackled and popped, seemingly struggling to dispel the hall's chill as quickly as possible.
Adelaide was adding firewood to the fireplace, seemingly complaining that the fire was too small; she was feeling the cold. Her slightly trembling legs were the best proof of this.
Meanwhile, Carly was stirring the porridge in her bowl with a spoon at the long table in the hall.
"Good morning, Carly." Ed sat down across from Carly at the long table.
"Good morning, Lord Ed." Carly looked up and politely responded to Ed, then continued stirring the porridge in her bowl.
"Do you need any help? Carly, you don't look very happy."
"No, Lord Ed, I just miss my family a little."
Carly read her father's letter yesterday, and she probably misses her family a bit, after all, she's still young.
"Carly, did you count how many oats there were?"
Upon hearing this, Carly first looked at Ed with a puzzled expression, then a smile slowly appeared on her face.
Lord Edd is so mischievous, saying such disgusting things while eating again.
With Ed's "encouragement," Carly's homesickness instantly crumbled, and she picked up her spoon and began to seriously drink her porridge.
But as she drank, she unconsciously started counting the oats floating in the bowl.
"Why should I count it? Does it come out looking like this?" Carly pinched herself hard to stop those unpleasant images from appearing.
Watching Carly diligently eat her porridge, Ed reminded himself not to say such disgusting things while eating next time. It ruined his appetite.
So Ed gulped down the porridge in his bowl.
"Master, drinking so fast, aren't you afraid you'll come out looking the same as before?" Adelaide's voice came at just the right time.
"Pfft~"
Ed spat out all the porridge he hadn't fully swallowed. Luckily, he adjusted his direction in time, doing his best to avoid Carly.
Haha, but just because he avoided Carly doesn't mean he avoided Adelaide.
Because he was already looking at Adelaide when she called him.
It's not Ed's fault; he had no way to avoid it.
This is where things get funny. Ed continues spitting out porridge, while Adelaide stands there, her face covered in porridge, stunned. Carly covers her mouth, unsure whether she's surprised or laughing.
A brief silence fell over the hall.
Finally, it was the clever little girl Carly who reacted first, grabbed a cloth, got up, and ran to Adelaide to wipe her face.
Where is Adelaide? She's still in a daze, letting Carly rub her face.
Carly didn't look at Adelaide's face either, because she was exchanging glances with Ed:
Ed's eyes darted to the left.
Carly: Oh, the left one, right!
Ed's eyes darted to the right.
Carly: Yeah, the one on the right, right?
Ed's eyes darted around.
Carly: The cloth in her hand also spun around.
"Are you alright, Carly?" Adelaide finally came to her senses.
"Okay, okay, Sister Adelaide, it's all clean now."
Carly turned around. "Ah, a ghost!" She quickly hid the cloth behind her back.
"Carly, what are you yelling about?"
"Oh, nothing, Adelaide, I just suddenly need to use the restroom," Carly said and dashed off.
"Adelaide, I'm so sorry, I'll send you a gift later to express my apologies."
Ed was trying to control his emotions, but his trembling lips were getting worse and worse.
"It's alright, Master. It was just that I spoke at the wrong time. But are you alright?"
Adelaide noticed that Ed was acting strangely.
"Nothing's wrong, I just suddenly needed to use the restroom."
