Chapter 4 - No rest

Hope estimated she had 3 seconds before the beast was upon her. Keeping track of its steps, she guessed that the beast would most likely be on its right leg before it began to swing at her with its limbs.

It wouldn't make sense for a beast that intelligent to swing both of its arms simultaneously and throw off its balance.

'Its left arm .'

Hope crouched on her right leg, waiting for the perfect timing to leap to its blind spot.

"GrrrAhh."

The monster bellowed as its rampart charge came close. It fully expected to swiftly end the futile creature, it swung in a rough manner and prepared itself for a snack.

However, something was strange, the being was staring at it with such an unsettling gaze. Not one full of hatred nor resolve, but of pure, cold calmness.

As the vile beast came into range, the ground beneath Hope began to crack under the it's weight and sent her upwards along with several large rocks.

However, she had expected this, using the nearest boulder as a foothold she dashed forward in an falling motion.

If someone had been there to watch her, they might have commented on how graceful her form was.

The scythe-like limb flew above her, sending a powerful draft of wind which almost threw her off balance as she landed.

'Great! Great! I'm not in two pieces!!'

Desperately, she looked around the creatures body for any possible weak points she could exploit and laid her eyes on a specific spot. The material for the abomination's arm was off different flesh than the rest of its body. While the main body was a mix of armor like plates meshed with its skin, the scythe was of pure metal, which was stained red in several spots. However, the joining parts between these two parts of it was open and exposed bare skin.

While she mentally celebrated her discovery, the beast quickly realized that it needed distance to fully utilize its massive limbs. It launched itself back with its powerful hind legs and looked around for its prey.

'Why is it so fast!?' Hope grumbled.

During the last moment before it flew back, Hope had managed to jam her sword into the section that she had seen before, and was carried along, buying her precious time to think while the creature looked for her. Unfortunately, only a few moments were given and the creature spun around viciously, aiming to kill her.

She had managed to escape its bind, however, with only a damaged ego and light bruises from the fall.

Hope knew she had no time to think and decided to take a risky move, hoping to change the obvious outcome of their battle.

She lunged between its legs before it had time to make a next move and aggressively slashed at its only opening of flesh. She managed to get a clean slice and dashed straight to the side, barely avoiding a rock which would have tripped her.

'At least my luck isn't entirely horrid '

Promptly after, the creature roared and stomped the earth in rage, which caused Hope to topple over and trip.

"Ahhh! I take that back!!"

The creature instantly turned to her and let out an unnatural growl mixed with a human voice.

"GrAuhhh! Pain! It's hurts!"

This momentarily shocked Hope, giving the beast the perfect moment to make a move, which it had.
