Episode 3 — Something Moves First
They didn't move immediately.
No one said it—but no one wanted to be the first to walk again.
"…we almost died," someone muttered.
Silence.
The big guy exhaled hard, hands on his head—broad shoulders, tall, built like he could take a hit and keep standing.
"…we can't keep doing this."
"…doing what?" another voice replied.
"…this."
He gestured around.
"…moving with people we don't even know."
A pause.
The girl who had stayed composed through everything—calm eyes, steady posture, the only one not losing control earlier—spoke.
"…he's right."
"…if we're staying together… we should at least know names."
"…fine," someone sighed.
A girl with tied-back hair and sharp, observant eyes spoke first.
"…Maya."
The big guy followed, straightening slightly like responsibility came naturally to him.
"…Darius."
A lean guy with a constant frown and restless energy shifted his weight.
"…Leon."
Another one—quieter, glasses slightly crooked—rubbed the back of his neck.
"…Kai."
The last hesitated—a shorter guy, shoulders tight, already looking overwhelmed.
"…Joel."
Then—
they all looked at him.
A short pause.
He didn't rush.
Didn't care.
"…Bram."
That was it.
"…just Bram?" Leon asked.
No response.
"…alright then," Darius said. "Bram."
Maya nodded slightly.
"…Bram."
He didn't react.
Silence settled again.
"…so?" Kai asked. "…what now?"
Bram looked ahead.
"…we move."
"…move where?" Leon asked.
"…forward."
"…that's not a plan."
"…standing still isn't one either."
A pause.
"…he's got a point," Darius said.
No one argued after that.
They started walking.
Slow.
Careful.
Every step felt heavier than it should.
Branches cracked underfoot.
The air felt… different.
Not heavier.
Not lighter.
Just… present.
Like something that had always been there—
and they were only just noticing it.
Then Bram stopped.
"…again?" Leon muttered.
"…why are we stopping now?"
"Hold on."
"…for what?"
No answer.
Bram pointed.
"You. Step forward."
"…why me?"
"Just move."
"…you're starting this again—"
"Move."
A pause.
"…tch. Fine."
Leon stepped forward.
Nothing.
"…yeah. That helped."
"Again."
"…no."
"Left."
"…what?"
"Step left."
"…why?"
"Just do it."
"…this guy—"
"Go," Maya said quietly.
"…fine."
Leon stepped left.
"Right."
"…seriously?"
"Right."
He stepped right—
His foot slipped.
"—yo! What the—?!"
He stumbled, barely catching himself.
"I didn't trip on anything!"
"Then watch your step!" Darius snapped.
"I am watching—!"
"Again."
"…are you serious right now?"
"Move."
"…nah, you're actually annoying."
"Move."
A beat.
"…tch."
Leon stepped again.
Careful this time.
"Left."
"…you keep saying that like—"
"Left."
He moved slower.
No slip.
"…okay… wait."
Silence.
"…do that again," Kai said.
"…you saw that too?" Darius asked.
"Right."
"…bro—"
"Right."
Leon stepped—
too late—
His foot slipped again.
"—nah, okay! What is that?!"
Now everyone was watching.
"…what are you doing?" Maya asked.
Bram didn't answer.
"Left."
"…I'm not your experiment."
"Then don't move."
A pause.
"…you're annoying."
"Move."
Leon stepped.
Clean.
No slip.
Silence.
"…okay…" Darius said slowly.
"…that's not normal."
"…yeah…" Kai added. "…that's weird."
"…I don't like this," Joel muttered.
Bram didn't respond.
Didn't explain.
Didn't even look at them.
He just watched.
Every step.
Every hesitation.
Every moment before movement.
And then—
he saw it.
Not the step.
Before the step.
That slight shift.
Left—
it moved.
Right—
it moved again.
Not random.
Not delayed.
Exact.
The body wasn't leading.
Something else was.
The moment they decided—
something reacted.
With it.
Bram flexed his fingers slightly.
Thought about moving—
And there—
A faint shift.
His hand hadn't moved yet.
But something else had.
A small pause.
"…interesting."
He lowered his hand.
"Are you going to explain what you're doing?" Maya asked.
Bram looked at her.
A short pause.
"…no."
Silence.
"…great," Leon muttered.
Bram turned.
Started walking again.
"…wait—you're just leaving?" Darius said.
"…we're moving," Bram replied.
"…and that thing?"
A small pause.
"…pay attention."
And he kept walking.
They followed.
Not because they understood—
But because now…
something felt wrong if they didn't.
