Chapter 290: Origin Forme Giratina — Here to Issue Its Challenge!

ROOOAR—!

The moment their berserk rage took hold, Dialga and Palkia's attention snapped immediately to one another. Perhaps it was years of accumulated tension, or perhaps simply a mutual dislike buried deep enough to need no excuse — either way, once fully feral, the two dragons charged straight at each other without hesitation.

SLAM—!

A thunderous collision echoed as Dialga and Palkia crashed together in midair, the shockwave of impact rippling out violently around them.

Hummmmm—

Time and space itself seemed to warp and buckle in that instant. A piercing ringing filled Cynthia's and Caitlin's ears, brows furrowing as a wave of profound wrongness crawled up from the soles of their feet through their entire bodies. For one disorienting moment, they could almost swear the twin gods' very forms had begun to blur and double, overlapping with themselves.

"So it really has come to this, after all."

Uxie's cool telepathy carried something almost like a sigh. Foreseen or not, actually witnessing it still drew a note of genuine lament from him.

"Why are they fighting each other? Was it that lightning bolt just now?"

Cynthia recovered from the disorientation, asking in confusion. The red chain had clearly already been shattered — and yet Dialga and Palkia seemed even more unhinged now than before. Earlier, under Cyrus's control, they'd merely been directed. Now, watching them, it genuinely looked like each was trying to beat the other to death.

"This is his power. A power that belongs to him alone."

Uxie's wisdom-filled eyes fixed on the grotesque, terrifying form of Origin Forme Giratina.

"The Wrathful Lightning?" Mammon's eyes narrowed slightly.

"That's right, Mammon. You really do know a great deal."

Uxie glanced at him.

"The Wrathful Lightning? Is that some kind of move?" Cynthia had never heard the term.

"It's not a move — it's an ability that belongs to Giratina alone."

Mammon shook his head.

Right — the so-called "Wrathful Lightning" wasn't a move at all, but an inherent power unique to Giratina. It had been described in the Plate inscriptions: The Ghost Plate: its violent splinter, granted dominion over the world's reverse side. The Zap Plate: a violent splinter, capable of calling down thunderous wrath.

"Giratina, master of 'antimatter,' is one of Arceus's own splinters — specifically, the 'violent' splinter. That's precisely why its nature is so savage and hostile, and why Arceus banished it to the broken world, tasked with keeping watch over it."

"As the 'violent' splinter, Giratina naturally wields the power of the Wrathful Lightning — the ability to tear open rifts through space-time and strike lightning down into the mortal world, spreading that same violent fury into other living things."

Mammon explained.

In Legends: Arceus, a bolt of lightning had descended from just such a rift, and one by one the region's various Noble Pokémon had fallen into berserk rages — Giratina's handiwork, entirely. And in the finale, Volo had revealed his true colors and summoned Giratina himself, using its power to drive Dialga and Palkia into that same berserk state, hoping to use the force of their conflict to tear open a passage into the Original World and reach Arceus.

"This—"

Cynthia pressed her lips together, watching the violent clash between Dialga and Palkia overhead. Genuinely terrifying. But something about it still nagged at her — first controlled by Cyrus's red chain, now driven berserk by Giratina's lightning. These twin gods, embodiments of time and space itself, being manipulated so easily... it felt strangely off.

"Mammon, we can't let Dialga and Palkia keep fighting like this. Their battle will warp and distort space-time itself — this world is heading toward catastrophe," Azelf said.

Dialga and Palkia's existence was simply too fundamental; a battle between them, berserk, would inevitably ripple outward into space-time itself. Left unchecked long enough, the entire world would suffer serious consequences — at best, chaotic time flow, warped and collapsing space, dimensions bleeding into parallel timelines; at worst, space-time itself shattering, time reversing or rushing forward uncontrollably. That was the sheer scale of influence the twin gods carried. Charon's dream of building a new world hadn't been pure fantasy — if he'd truly gained full control of the twin gods and let them cut loose entirely, they genuinely could have forged an entirely new world from their combined "matter" and the red chain's "heart."

"Ah~ understood."

Mammon flexed his hand, turning his attention to Giratina, still quietly observing the fight. Snapping Dialga and the others out of the Wrathful Lightning's influence was actually simple enough — just beat them. But that only treated the symptom, not the cause. As long as Giratina remained here, its goal unmet, it wasn't going to just give up. The real root of the problem was Giratina itself.

As if sensing Mammon's gaze, Origin Forme Giratina slowly turned its head, its cold, savage eyes settling on him.

!!

An unprecedented wave of pure dread swept through Cynthia, every hair on her body standing on end. Terrifying! What kind of gaze was that? Swept by Giratina's stare, she genuinely felt her breath catch, as if suffocating. This Legendary Pokémon, embodying "antimatter" itself, was far, far more terrifying than Dialga or Palkia combined.

"First time meeting you properly, Giratina."

Mammon, seemingly unaffected, stepped forward twice, offering Giratina an easy smile. Not that he had nerves of steel — well, actually, yes, Mammon had always had nerves of steel. Giratina's sheer pressure genuinely was the most intense he'd ever encountered from any Pokémon. But he'd already received the Lake Guardians' blessing — Azelf's prayer for him had been "convictions unshaken, never faltering, courage ever at your side." As one of the Six Gods from the dawn of creation, Azelf's domain of "heart" was precisely "willpower." It could genuinely be said, at this point, that Mammon possessed the single most unshakeable will in this entire world. And even setting Azelf's blessing aside, between the sheer number of Legendaries bound to him, the natural blessing of the Power of Viridian, and his own inherently unbending resolve, Giratina's "pressure" simply wasn't going to touch him.

Origin Forme Giratina's eyes showed not a flicker of reaction, still fixed on Mammon with the same cold indifference.

"Not much of a conversationalist, I see." Mammon let out a light laugh at the total lack of response. Not exactly surprising, though.

"I don't understand." Cynthia watched Mammon's back, and the terrifying figure of Origin Giratina beyond him. "Uxie, since Giratina was created by Arceus just like you were, why would it attack Dialga and Palkia — and it seems like you all already expected this to happen?"

"Because he wishes to rebel against Father God," Uxie said flatly. "He is unlike us, and unlike the twin sovereigns. From the moment of his creation, Father God cast him into the broken world. Perhaps, in his eyes, he simply cannot accept that outcome."

Uxie's normally calm, wise gaze, fixed now on Giratina's distant form, seemed to ripple faintly. Yes — why rebel against Arceus at all? Perhaps "rebellion" wasn't quite the right word. Perhaps it was simply the need to challenge something — a challenge against his own fate.

Cynthia fell silent.

A low, ragged draconic growl rumbled out as Origin Giratina's massive form writhed and rose higher, the red glow in its eyes bone-chilling. The oppressive pressure intensified further.

"Want me to stay out of this? Sorry — can't do that."

Mammon shrugged helplessly. "Uxie and the others went through quite a lot to sincerely ask me to stop you. And besides — if those two big lugs keep tearing things up like this, the fallout's going to be severe. And this world..."

Mammon's grin slowly widened, thick with malice.

"...is mine."

Right — as far as Mammon was concerned, this world belonged to him, sooner or later. And Dialga and Palkia thrashing around this violently? That was tantamount to trashing his own property. Not something he was willing to tolerate. Besides, he had zero interest in repeating what had happened to Ash and company in canon — getting caught in the space-time distortion from Dialga and Palkia's fight and regressed back into a child. That would be a genuinely terrible outcome.

At that, cold light flickered in Giratina's eyes, its gaze flicking briefly toward Uxie and the other two.

Gulp—

Caught in Giratina's stare, Uxie and Azelf forced themselves to hold steady, but Mesprit felt its whole body go weak instantly, swallowing hard before shrinking back behind the other two, trembling.

"You can't defeat Arceus. Wouldn't it be easier to just let that idea go? You must understand that yourself, surely."

Mammon offered the advice to Giratina directly. As one of the Six Gods from the dawn of creation, there was no way Giratina failed to understand Arceus's true power.

At those words, the temperature in Giratina's eyes plummeted to something bone-piercingly cold, its massive body beginning to drift slowly forward.

"Hit a nerve, apparently." Mammon raised an eyebrow.

"Mewtwo, Dark Pulse!"

Mega Mewtwo Y raised its left arm, black energy pulsing, Dark Pulse firing instantly toward the incoming Origin Giratina. A Dark-type move — super effective against Giratina. But Origin Giratina neither dodged nor slowed — if anything, it accelerated. Just as the Dark Pulse was about to connect, Giratina's form abruptly turned intangible, and the attack passed clean through its body.

That trick again?

Mammon licked his lips at the sight. Seeing the Dark Pulse rendered "ineffective," Mega Mewtwo Y halted the attack at once, a violet-black psychic barrier snapping into existence.

BOOM!

The next instant, Giratina solidified from intangible to fully physical, cloaked in a spectral glow, slamming full-force into Mega Mewtwo Y's psychic barrier. Giratina's signature move — Shadow Force!

Light flickered wildly in Mega Mewtwo Y's eyes as it felt the sheer force of the impact reverberating through its barrier. Incredibly heavy. Mega Mewtwo Y poured psychic energy frantically into the barrier, only barely managing to hold against Giratina's charge.

A low, ragged draconic growl sounded once more as the massive form drifted upward again, its body cycling endlessly between intangible and solid, eerie and silent all at once. Giratina rose steadily into the sky above, its cold, savage eyes sweeping down over Primal Kyogre and Mega Mewtwo Y below.

The master of the Distortion World — Origin Forme Giratina — had come to issue its challenge!
