Chapter 29 - Faker & True

Night blanketed the sky over Fuyuki City.

On the quiet sidewalk, Kuro walked leisurely with a cigarette between his lips.

He took a slow drag.

White smoke drifted into the night air, lingering briefly before fading without a trace.

His right hand rested in his pocket, his steps calm—as if nothing could disturb him.

Beside him, Kama walked with a sour expression, silent yet clearly radiating her displeasure.

But Kuro paid her no mind.

His thoughts were moving quickly—not about what had happened a few minutes ago, but about the results of the Gacha Tickets he had just used.

This time… the results were far more useful than before.

Though, admittedly, quite surprising.

First Gacha—five hundred bottles of Potion of Youth.

Second Gacha—fifty Prototype Noble Phantasms ranked C++ and below.

Third Gacha—ten thousand low-grade gems.

Fourth Gacha—five thousand mid-grade gems.

Fifth Gacha—two thousand high-grade gems.

Sixth gacha—eighty thousand gold coins.

Seventh Gacha—thirty Noble Phantasm Prototypes ranked B++ and below.

Eighth Gacha—his OD stat increased by five hundred units.

Ninth Gacha—the number of Magic Circuits increased by fifty.

Kuro let out a soft breath.

"…not bad."

His voice was flat, yet enough to reveal a faint sense of satisfaction with the results.

He didn't use the last remaining ticket. He kept it—like a collection piece.

And as usual, everything he obtained had already been stored inside his Gate of Babylon.

"You're quite something, Master-san. Even after I gave you love…" that cold voice echoed again, thin yet sharp, "…you still seek another kind of love?"

Kuro glanced to the side. Kama walked beside him, her expression calm, her gaze fixed forward as if indifferent—yet clearly, every word she spoke carried meaning.

"How…" Kuro said casually, "did you know?"

"I am the Goddess of Love," she replied briefly.

Silence fell for a moment.

Then Kuro let out a soft chuckle.

"Ah, right… you're a Succubus Goddess. Makes sense that you'd know."

Kama stopped walking.

For the first time, she turned to look at him.

Her gaze pierced through him—not angry, but… offended.

"Don't compare me to such lowly creatures," she said coldly.

Kuro raised an eyebrow.

"Aren't you similar?"

"Similar?" Kama repeated softly, her tone dropping several degrees. "Those creatures only know how to take."

She stepped half a pace closer.

"I… am the concept itself."

Kuro smirked faintly.

"A concept that gets jealous?"

Kama's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Jealous?" she repeated. "Don't misunderstand, Master-san."

She looked away again, but this time her tone was sharper.

"I am merely… observing."

"Hmm." Kuro took a brief sip of his alcohol. "Observing to the point of making comments like that?"

"…That's just a fact."

"A fact that I'm seeking 'another kind of love'?"

Kama fell silent.

A few seconds passed.

"…You're too greedy," she finally said, more quietly.

Kuro let out a small laugh.

"Isn't that just human nature?"

"And that is exactly why humans are so easily destroyed," Kama replied without hesitation.

Kuro stopped walking.

"You know," he said lightly, "if I stay in one place, wouldn't that just be boring?"

Kama stopped as well.

"Love is not something to be collected."

"For some people, it is."

"…And for you?"

Kuro turned his head, looking at her directly.

"For me?"

He gave a faint smile.

"That depends on the person."

Kama fell silent again.

For a brief moment, her expression wavered—just for a fraction of a second.

"…How sly," she muttered. "A cheater."

Kuro simply chuckled, then resumed walking, leaving Kama half a step behind.

But this time, Kama quickly caught up.

The distance between them narrowed—closer than before, almost without space.

Behind her calm expression, her thoughts moved slowly… yet steadily.

She didn't like the direction that conversation had taken.

Not because she was angry—but because of something subtler.

Something that had been disturbed.

In that case…

Kama lowered her gaze slightly, a faint smile beginning to form on her lips.

I'll give you more.

More love.

Deeper.

Denser.

Until the point where you can no longer ignore me… and beg for my love.

That smile slowly widened—gentle… yet holding something difficult to define.

At the same time, Kuro felt a sudden chill run down his spine.

His steps didn't stop, his expression remained as relaxed as ever.

But an odd sensation crept along his back, like something was watching him from far too close.

"…?"

Kuro glanced slightly to the side, but found nothing had changed.

Only Kama, walking beside him as usual.

With a small smile that… for some reason, felt dangerous.

***

Soon after, their steps slowed.

Across the street stood an old church—silent, solid, and holding more secrets than what appeared on the surface.

The overseer of the Holy Grail War.

Kuro stopped.

A faint smile formed on his face as he looked at the iron gate across the road.

Casually, he pinched the nearly-finished cigarette between his fingers, dropped it to the ground, and extinguished it with the tip of his shoe.

His hand rose.

Ring finger, middle finger, and pinky bent.

Index finger and thumb extended—forming a mock pistol.

"Let's make a gas leak report appear on tomorrow's news…" he muttered lightly.

His smile widened.

"…and send my regards to the King of Heroes."

Around him, space began to ripple—like the surface of water being touched by something from another dimension.

A gray vortex opened.

From within it, a crimson spear slowly emerged, exuding a dense curse-like aura, along with an overwhelming amount of mana—enough to level an entire building without leaving a trace.

"Gate of Babylon…"

Kuro's voice remained calm.

"Gáe Bolg."

SWHOOOSH…!!!

In an instant, the spear shot forward.

The air split apart.

A shockwave rippled through the empty street as the crimson projectile pierced through the church gate without resistance.

BOOOOM!!!

A deafening explosion shook the night.

Magical flames erupted from inside the building, devouring the ancient stone walls like brittle paper.

The church… vanished within the blaze and collapsing dust.

***

Inside the church—seconds before the explosion shattered the night's silence.

A man stood calmly near the stained-glass window. Moonlight passed through the colored glass, casting faint reflections across his face.

His black hair was neatly combed. The priest's robe he wore fell straight without a single wrinkle.

In his hand, a glass of red wine slowly swirled.

There was no doubt—he was Kirei Kotomine, the overseer of the Fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki.

His empty eyes looked toward the entrance—calm, blank, yet… too calm to be mere coincidence.

As if—he already knew. Already waiting.

"…It seems," he murmured softly, his voice nearly swallowed by the silence, "we have a guest tonight."

The glass in his hand stopped swirling—and a faint smile formed on his lips. Not warm, but… carrying a meaning difficult to decipher.

Not far from him, a blond-haired man sat casually—his blood-red eyes glowing faintly beneath half-lowered lids.

His arrogant aura was so dense it felt as if the world itself was something beneath his feet.

Gilgamesh.

"Zasshu…" he muttered lowly, his voice heavy and cold, filled with contempt.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

He had already felt it.

Something… approaching.

Fast.

Too fast.

"How bold."

In an instant, crimson light tore through the structure.

BOOOOM!!!

A devastating explosion ripped through the room, annihilating everything without mercy.

Yet, in the middle of that vortex of destruction, golden light shimmered.

Several portals opened in the air, forming a circle around him.

From within them, shields emerged one after another—spinning, then arranging themselves neatly, forming an instant layered defense.

A fortress of gold.

Solid.

Unshakable.

And at its center, Gilgamesh remained seated… completely unmoved.

Meanwhile, Kirei leapt back, his body wrapped in magical energy to absorb the impact.

Dust and flames filled the air, swallowing what remained of the ruined room.

But beneath the chaos, a faint laugh echoed.

"…Interesting."

Gilgamesh's voice echoed—low, heavy, carrying a cold rage… and a faint trace of interest.

"A Faker… daring to use mine against me."

His blood-red eyes flashed sharply.

Not mere anger.

But irritation.

"This is no longer a simple insult, zasshu."

Flames swirled slowly around him as he rose from his seat, his steps firm as he walked across the still-burning ruins.

"This is a sin… that cannot be forgiven."

His oppressive aura pressed against the space itself, as if the world was being forced to submit.

On the other side, Kirei Kotomine stood back up calmly.

His black robe was slightly scorched in places, but his expression remained unchanged—unbothered.

"…It seems tonight will not be boring."

His tone was calm, almost like a prayer spoken without emotion.

Slowly, he lifted his gaze.

His eyes pierced outward—toward a figure in the distance.

Kuro.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

He stepped forward once.

A gray gate opened beside him—silent, stable, without the aggressive distortion of his usual Gate.

Kama glanced at him briefly, then without a word, stepped into it.

The space closed again.

Now… he stood alone.

Facing them.

His smile remained light—almost casual, as if this was not a life-or-death confrontation.

"So, King of Heroes," Kuro said lightly, "do you like my warm greeting?"

Amid the still-burning ruins, the figure stepped forward.

Gilgamesh stared at Kuro with burning red eyes—cold, arrogant… and restrained rage.

"A stray dog who doesn't even know his place…"

His gaze sharpened.

Behind him, ten Gates of Babylon slowly opened, radiating a threatening golden glow.

"…dares to bark in front of a king."
