The sound of laughter pulled me from the quiet haze of the post-dungeon exhaustion my entire body was feeling, but it wasn't just any laugh. The laugh had come from Astra.
The sound was lighter than I expected, almost musical, and completely free of the pain and fear that had clung to her in the tower. She sounded like she felt safe and that more than anything made me feel proud of my companions.
I followed the sound up the staircase, my hand trailing along the polished wood railing. The master bedroom door was open slightly, and a warm, steamy air flowed freely out, smelling like lavender, soap, and something else, something more ancient and wild.
I pushed the door open just enough to see. The scene in front of me was one I could only have dreamed of back on earth, but here it seemed like it would continue to be just a normal everyday thing.
