Chapter 4 - 3

The night did not return to normal after the Hollow vanished, the air still carried a faint distortion, as if reality itself had not yet recovered from what had just happened, and standing in the middle of the street, Ichigo Kurosaki kept his eyes locked on Zed, his instincts refusing to relax even for a second.

"…A traveler?" Ichigo repeated, his tone low, clearly not convinced.

Zed did not respond immediately, his gaze drifting slightly upward as if observing something invisible, feeling the flow of reiryoku around him as it slowly stabilized, adapting to his presence little by little.

"This world… is trying to correct itself," he said quietly, almost to himself.

Ichigo frowned. "Oi, don't ignore me."

In the next instant, Ichigo's spiritual pressure flared again, not as an attack, but as a test, a way to measure the man standing in front of him, the ground beneath his feet cracking slightly as the pressure spread outward.

Zed finally looked at him directly.

There was no reaction.

No resistance.

No counter-pressure.

Yet somehow, Ichigo felt like his power had disappeared into nothing the moment it approached Zed, as if it had been absorbed by an unseen boundary.

"…What the hell," Ichigo muttered.

Zed tilted his head slightly. "If you're trying to measure me, it won't work."

Ichigo's eyes narrowed. "…Then let me try something else."

Without warning, he moved.

A burst of speed, Shunpo activating instantly as he closed the distance, his blade swinging toward Zed with precise control, not aiming to kill, but to test his reaction.

Zed did not step back.

He did not draw a weapon.

He simply raised his hand.

The blade stopped.

Not blocked.

Not parried.

It just… stopped.

Ichigo's eyes widened as his sword froze inches away from Zed's palm, an invisible force holding it in place, not pushing, not resisting, just existing.

"…You're not using reiryoku," Ichigo said slowly.

Zed looked at the blade calmly. "Your energy has structure. Mine doesn't follow your rules."

With a slight motion of his fingers, Ichigo was pushed back, not violently, but firmly, as if the space itself had shifted to move him away.

Ichigo landed smoothly, sliding back a few meters, his grip tightening again.

"…Yeah, you're definitely not normal."

Behind them, Rukia Kuchiki had already drawn her Zanpakutō, her eyes sharp as she analyzed the situation, though even she could not fully understand what she was sensing.

"This isn't like any spiritual pressure I've ever felt," she said quietly. "It's… something else."

Zed glanced at her briefly, then looked back at Ichigo.

"I'm not your enemy," he said simply.

Ichigo didn't lower his guard. "That's what every suspicious guy says."

For a moment, silence returned.

Then—

A ripple spread across the air.

All three of them felt it instantly.

Zed's eyes shifted slightly.

Ichigo's expression changed.

Rukia tensed.

"…Another one?" Ichigo said.

But this time—

It was different.

From the shadows, multiple distortions began to form, one after another, like cracks opening in reality, and from each of them, a Hollow emerged.

Not one.

Not two.

But dozens.

And each of them—

Was unstable.

Their forms twisted unnaturally, their masks distorted, their spiritual pressure fluctuating violently, far beyond normal Hollow behavior.

Rukia's eyes widened. "This many at once… that's impossible!"

Ichigo clicked his tongue. "Tch… looks like we're not done yet."

He stepped forward again, placing himself between the Hollows and the others, his spiritual pressure rising sharply as he prepared for battle.

But Zed's gaze deepened slightly.

"…It's spreading faster than I thought."

Ichigo glanced at him briefly. "What are you talking about?"

Zed didn't answer immediately.

His eyes moved across the Hollows, observing, analyzing, understanding the pattern.

"They're not just appearing," he said finally. "They're reacting."

"Reacting to what?" Ichigo asked.

Zed's gaze shifted slightly.

"…To me."

Before Ichigo could respond, the Hollows moved.

All at once.

Their movements were chaotic, yet strangely coordinated, as if driven by a shared instinct, their unstable energy flaring as they rushed forward, claws tearing through the air.

Ichigo didn't hesitate.

He stepped forward to meet them head-on.

"Stay back!" he shouted.

His blade flashed as he cut through the first Hollow, destroying it instantly, but unlike before, its energy didn't disperse normally, instead lingering briefly, twisting before fading.

"Getsuga Tensho!"

The attack tore through multiple Hollows at once, clearing a path, but more kept coming, their numbers not decreasing as expected.

"…They're not stopping," Ichigo muttered.

From behind, Rukia joined the fight, her movements precise as she struck down another Hollow, though even she could feel the difference.

"They're not behaving like Hollows," she said. "It's like their instincts are being overridden."

Zed stepped forward slowly.

The wind around him shifted again.

Not violently.

Not overwhelmingly.

But enough to make the surrounding space tremble slightly.

"I'll handle this," he said calmly.

Ichigo immediately turned toward him. "Don't just jump in—!"

But before he could finish—

Zed took another step.

That was all.

The moment his foot touched the ground—

Everything changed.

The Hollows froze.

Mid-motion.

Mid-attack.

Their bodies trembled violently, their unstable energy reacting as if encountering something they could not comprehend.

Zed raised his hand slightly.

No energy blast.

No attack.

Just a subtle shift.

The space around the Hollows distorted gently, like ripples on water, and in the next instant—

They began to collapse.

Not destroyed.

Not cut.

But unraveling.

Their forms breaking apart into fragments of unstable energy that dissolved into nothingness.

Silence fell once more.

Ichigo stood still, his sword lowered slightly, his eyes fixed on the scene in front of him.

"…What… did you just do?"

Zed lowered his hand.

"Corrected an imbalance," he replied simply.

Rukia stared at him, her expression more serious than ever. "That wasn't any known technique… not Kido, not Zanpakutō…"

Zed looked at the sky again.

"…This world is starting to reject me," he said quietly.

Ichigo frowned. "Reject you?"

Zed nodded slightly. "Or adapt to me. Either way, it's accelerating."

Ichigo stepped closer, his expression firm. "Then start explaining, because if you're the reason all this is happening, I'm not just going to stand here."

Zed looked at him for a moment.

Then—

For the first time—

A faint, almost imperceptible smile appeared.

"…You remind me of someone."

Ichigo blinked. "…Huh?"

Zed turned slightly, his gaze toward the horizon.

"I didn't come here by choice," he said. "But now that I'm here… things will keep changing."

The wind rose again.

Stronger this time.

And far away—

In a hidden location, Sosuke Aizen paused mid-step, his eyes lifting slightly as a faint smile appeared on his face.

"…So it begins," he murmured.

Back in Karakura Town, Ichigo clenched his sword tighter, his instincts telling him one thing clearly.

This wasn't just another enemy.

This wasn't just another fight.

Something far bigger had entered his world.

And it was only getting started.
