Chapter 28 - True feelings

Time flowed slower with Nevyziel moving aside for Aurelion. Even slower with Aurelion walking down the stairs. He descended to the lower floor for giving judgement of a sin that never was. It felt like how angels did, but angels never made the innocent scared.

The smirk on Lynx's face, Kaelen looked at her with the same smirk.

Her head smashed into the wall. Blood ran over her face. Her dark red muscles burnt from her own blood. Even an animal would be afraid of the smirk she kept giving even after getting most of her skin tore.

The next second Aurelion was beside him. Ready to kill Kaelen right at that moment. He glanced at Lynx then again at Kaelen. All while Kaelen was ordered to stay in attention pose by his commander.

Kaelen used clairvoyance, Aurelion was burning his courage fuel to find his killing intent. Where he found himself exhausted from all this. And pointed at Kaelen "You." then at Lynx "And you lynx." Then at his room "My room."

Lynx followed Aurelion to his room, whispering to him. Clairvoyance exposed her innocence as her brain was covered in the black fog.

There were many outer deities who watched this time, but the Yellow haired kid wanted to say something. Unspoken words gave it shape "Kill her."

Kaelen shook and slipped, Nevyziel pulled him by his shirt.

The look on Kaelen's face was enough to tell her she didn't need to say anything.

Aurelion wasn't as gifted as him or had abilities as strong as his still he was the scariest in terms of fighting. The ruthless monster who kept gods at the bay for centuries must have something going on for him. Nobody ever saw him fight, the strongest never needs to show his powers.

Kaelen pushed Nevyziel and took small steps to the room.

Inside the room, there was nothing. A bed, a water bottle and diaries.

Lynx was lying down on the bed with Aurelion beside the bed standing up like her bodyguard.

"I thought I made myself clear Kaelen, no fighting inside the team."

"You knew what she did didn't you? She destroyed our mission. I--" He pointed at himself " I was the one to fix her and her friend's mess. While you did nothing." Kaelen moved to his right as if he was in an octagon two versus one situation and fingered at Aurelion. "What did you do huh? You were sitting waiting for me to do something you could never. Even if I kill her, you can't kill me. I am what you can never be." He stopped when he reached the wall and moved towards Aurelion in front of his face Kaelen showed no signs of fear. "And you can't even kill me let alone be right. This world is going into the shit hole it deserves to. But still, I will save it and I will become the god who reigns to challenge the ones who created me, their Frankenstein."

That smirk was wiped off of her face. She looked at Kaelen with blood lust, her obvious hate and violent behaviour would come out soon. What Kaelen had done to her face made it terrifying. How could Aurelion miss something that's always in front of him?

"I understand what you are trying to say. I can't deny that you can do it. But Lynx may not be the greatest member, but she is important to me. More than how important Alex was to you. If he came joined, you and kept failing. Would you let others hurt him?"

"I understand what you are saying too, but" He stopped and made his voice firm. "You have to tell us why? We are with you, but we won't follow you blindly."

Aurelion shook his head and nodded at the same time. "Don't tell Silas, he follows me because he thinks I have no weakness." He pressed his lips against the corners of his mouth and teeth. "Lynx carries the memories of the girl I loved before this immortality. Both of us wither away from ourselves but she is the only thing that has been with me all this time, none of us are even a bit similar to what we were but she is the closest I can ever have."

Lynx had her face pressing against the bed, she could hide her tears but trying to hide your emotions from the other two people in the room was straight up dumb.

"You have a flight tomorrow take a good rest."

Kaelen nodded.

Nevyziel and Caeran waiting for him outside.

He joined them at the table.

Caeran reached out for something in his pocket, cards. "Do you to know how to play bluff?

Kaelen immediately said no. "No."

"Okay, so, in three people. We deal eighteen, seventeen, seventeen cards. The player with ace of spade starts by playing one to four cards and saying which card out loud, you could lie to dispense more cards or don't to play safe. If the next person decides to check and you lied you have to take all the piled-up cards if you told the truth he has to keep the cards or the person next to you can play the same card as you on top of it or skip then the third person has to check, skip or play. Once all three players skip round ends."

Kaelen started. "Three, fours."

Then Nevyziel "One four."

Caeran checked. "HAh, you fool. I had the last four."

Caeran started "One, four."

"One, four."

Nevyziel checked "You are so bad at lying."

Kaelen would never lie. Nevyziel would always lie. And Caeran would catch all lies and mix lies and truths. By the late game, Caeran had five cards, Kaelen twelve, and Nevyziel eight.

Everyone had exposed how they played in the first half, second half brought their inner pro bluff player outside.

Caeran told an obvious lie, telling the truth would give away too much information. "One seven."

Kaelen checked knowing he had every seven, Caeran grimed.

He slammed all his cards one by one and shouted them out loud. "Four seven, four nine and four ten."

"Aah fuck" Caeran slammed his cards facing down.

"Hey what if he just lied?" Nevyziel checked all of them. All truths.

Caeran erupted. "Gotcha. Now you have 20 cards to get rid of and it's my turn. And I know all your cards."

"Hey who said I am playing anymore." She said as she rushed into her room. "I have a flight tomorrow I need to sleep."

Caeran put his hands on Kaelen's shoulder. "You are a lucky man. Have you thought about marriage."

Kaelen's face turned into a tomato getting sliced by these two teasing him every time.

"Fuck off." he said as he went to his room.

"This makes you even luckier."

Kaelen gave Caeran's words a real thought, staring into the ceiling. He thought Nevyziel was right they haven't met for a more than a week, but it felt like months. Everything moved so fast in a week, they went through a lot too. But did it even matter when it was all he wished of. Other members were no fun for him. Caeran could be a good friend, but they never got the chance to. Even though he wanted to, what would it change?
