Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Exploring the Sewers

After making his decision, Durin walked directly from Third Avenue towards 123 South District, Fourth Avenue.

The two main streets required about fifteen minutes of travel time. As he passed a shop, soft electronic music emanated from within.

Durin stopped on the street and looked through a floor-to-ceiling red display window at the rows of goods inside.

The colorful neon lights appeared somewhat dim and unclear in the gray haze, but the lighting inside the display window was soft and bright, with a warmth that seemed to emanate through the glass.

On the shelves of goods in the display window were exquisite model carriages, cloth bear dolls, small mechanical robots, building block puzzles, and other collectibles that both children and adults would love.

Durin gazed, slightly lost in thought. He silently resolved in his heart that when he had money, he would buy all of these things!

But he quickly snapped back to reality and quickened his pace towards his destination.

The roads in the lower levels of Zaun were mostly muddy, and the houses were low-lying tiled roofs, their walls blackened by smoke and fire.

123 South District, Fourth Avenue, was a pharmacy. A neon sign brightly displayed the words "Pharmacy." At the bottom of the neon sign, there was a small line of text: "Quality ingredients on the shelves for healing, the art of medicine within the house for saving lives. For every purchase exceeding 1.5 silver lun coins, receive a 5% discount."

From time to time, one could see burly porters wearing vests carrying sacks of herbs in and out. The air was mixed with a strong scent of traditional Chinese medicine, which those who disliked it would find obscure and unpleasant.

Durin pushed the door open. A middle-aged man dressed in a simple gray and white robe was sorting medicinal herbs on a long counter. His temples were already streaked with white.

Behind him were rows of medicine shelves, many of which contained rare, aged items. In the corner, several bags of freshly harvested herbs were piled up, their roots still caked with dirt.

The middle-aged man looked up at Durin and calmly asked, "Rat Catcher?"

Durin nodded.

Only then did the middle-aged man step out from behind the long counter and lead Durin towards the less crowded side of the hall.

Due to a high arched stone screen separating the front hall from the back, most of the sound was blocked. After he passed the wall and walked through the large area covered with medicinal herbs,

He suddenly heard a slightly excited, familiar female voice call out to him: "Mr. Durin, why are you here?!"

Durin looked in the direction of the voice and saw Amy, wearing a relatively light, thin shirt, bending down and squatting on the ground, spreading out herbs for sorting.

Durin nodded and said with a smile, "I'm here to pick up a job."

Amy was about to say something when she was stopped by a stern look from the middle-aged man in the plain gray robe. She could only lower her head and continue working.

Then, Durin arrived at a warehouse whose door was sealed and blocked with boxes.

Only two people were waiting there, and both were dressed as ordinary people, not adventurers, but he wasn't surprised. Firstly, this type of task wasn't a proper adventure mission that adventurers would bother with. Secondly, it wasn't a life skill task either, as it carried a certain degree of danger, which ordinary people wouldn't dare to take on.

These two ordinary people were: one, a slightly muscular, dark-skinned youth with a mohawk haircut and a skull tattoo on his arm; the other, a middle-aged man covered in oil, disheveled, and thin, possessing the three characteristics of a low-level Zaunite citizen.

The former was a new member of the Skull Gang.

Durin silently made his judgment: this dark-skinned youth had a layer of fine hair on his thick lips, indicating he was young, just recently an adult.

Gang newcomers usually performed the hardest and lowest-paying labor within the gang.

This gang member was also scrutinizing Durin, his gaze fixed on the menacing-looking Page Hammer at Durin's waist. He swallowed nervously, fear in his heart.
