Blood came through Caleb's fingers when he pressed the dressing beside his collarbone. The dive had dragged the plate across the old seal, and each breath pulled at the reopened skin.
Suzu stopped him against the black wall. She took a pressure pad from her field kit and held it over the wet tape while he let his rifle hang on its sling.
"Keep your hand here. Taichi, help me bind it."
Taichi worked the strap with his gun slung across his back. Suzu kept the pressure steady until the pad stayed in place. Caleb's right arm still wouldn't lift clear of his side.
Kei covered the rising corridor. His thermal display reflected patches of their own heat from the glass, so he switched to the low-light filter and swept the slope with his lamp.
"Can't clear it on thermal," he said. "I can see the next turn."
