The neon rain had eased slightly, leaving the streets slick with a rainbow sheen.
Elric squinted at the city stretching before them: towering holo-billboards, narrow alleys branching in every direction, and a sky thick with flying vehicles weaving between towers like a chaotic river of lights.
"…Alright," he muttered, brushing water from his eyes. "Step one: survive the city. Step two: chaos. Step three: maybe find snacks."
Lyra groaned, sharp gaze scanning the area. "Player, stop joking. Security units are still hunting us. Move!"
Kaida-9 stomped forward, heavy boots clanging on wet pavement. "Affirmative. Tactical coordination required. Player, do not deviate from plan."
Elric grinned. "…Plan? Sure. Totally a plan." He took a step forward slipped slightly on the wet pavement landed on a discarded hover-drone, which slid perfectly, knocking over a stack of crates. "…Yep. Luck confirmed."
Mii spun in place, arms outstretched dramatically. "Player! That was amazing! Pure performance points! I am impressed!"
Pix darted between them, already tapping panels, flipping switches, causing sparks and small explosions. "Chaos multiplier increasing! Elric, keep this up!"
Sera muttered quietly, numbers scrolling in her eyes. "…Probability: zero. Yet survival persists. Unbelievable."
Elen's calm voice cut through the chaos. "…Trust your instincts. The environment is predictable if you observe carefully."
Elric tilted his head at her. "…Careful observation? Eh… optional. Let's go with momentum."
A gang of street drones skidded around a corner ahead, their targeting lasers painting the pavement. Red streaks sliced the neon glow.
Lyra drew her weapon, precision firing with deadly efficiency. Drones exploded into sparks.
Kaida-9 swung her armored fists, sending two drones crashing into holographic billboards.
Mii executed a dramatic aerial flip, blasting a drone mid-spin. "Style points! Maximum!"
Pix leapt atop a vent pipe, hacking a drone with sparks flying everywhere. "RNG activated!"
Sera weaved through them silently, analyzing, dodging, and redirecting their attacks with exact precision.
Elric… slipped on a puddle again. Went sliding directly behind a hovering delivery truck. A drone fired hit the truck instead of him. "…Yep. Definitely luck."
The truck veered, tipping over, crushing a drone. Elric tumbled off, landing perfectly on his feet. "…Alright. Step four: chaos confirmed. Step five: fun… 100%."
The girls' attention turned to him.
Lyra's sharp glare softened slightly. "…How are you alive?"
Kaida-9 growled. "…Parameters exceeded. Impossible."
Mii twirled, soaked, hair plastered to her face. "Player! You're amazing! This is performance art!"
Pix clapped. "RNG god! Maximum legend!"
Sera muttered, "…Statistical anomaly detected. Improbable."
Elen smiled serenely. "…We are surviving together."
Elric grinned. "…Exactly. Team chaos, maximum difficulty. Let's keep going!"
A massive holo-billboard flickered above, one side showing a smiling advertisement for "Cybernetic Companions," the other flashing a security alert:
[WARNING: UNAUTHORIZED COMPANION BINDING DETECTED]
Elric's eyes sparkled. "…Ohhh… this is really gonna be fun."
The girls groaned, screamed, and laughed all at once. Neon Meridian stretched endlessly before them pulsing, alive, dangerous, and perfect.
And somewhere, in the flickering lights above, a new HUD-like prompt blinked in Elric's peripheral vision:
[PLAYER LUCK: MAXIMUM]
Elric's grin widened impossibly. "…Step six: chaos city adventure begins."
