Chapter 32 - Monster

When we left the cafe, the sun was so strong that I regretted not wearing a hoodie for the day. I would have been sweating like hell, but at least I wouldn't have felt like I was getting grilled alive. Karuhi suggested we take a walk to 'cool down' a little. Although I wasn't quite sure how walking in this weather would help to 'cool down,' I hesitantly agreed. I just wasn't very good at turning people down. 

It turned out to be surprisingly pleasant, though, once we reached the riverside. The trees lining up along the trail provided much welcomed shadow, and there was even a slight breeze that soothed my burning skin. Karuhi didn't talk much on the way, which kind of made me nervous, but the excited devil provided plenty of noise yapping about every little thing that caught her eye. There really wasn't an awkward silence. 

But once we walked for more than forty minutes, I was starting to reach my limits. 

"Can we… rest a bit?" I asked Karuhi.
