I lay in my bed as Senne sat next to it, leaning her back against the mattress. We stayed like that for eternity without saying a word. My phone buzzed many times, but I did not pick up. Nothing bothered me anymore because the world bothered me too much—one too many times.
So even when Karuhi barged into the room, uninvited and unannounced, I didn't feel surprised.
"Bree! What is wrong with you?!" she shouted.
I didn't know how she got in.
Maybe Brian was back home and let her in.
Maybe she broke in.
Either way, it didn't matter.
I turned my head to look at her. She looked desperate, exasperated. She was panting as if she ran all the way from wherever she came from directly to my room.
"What gives?"
I asked her, surprising myself that I spoke at all.
"What have you done?!"
This time, she asked Senne. Her voice was trembling.
"Not enough," Senne said.
