Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

The Silence After Power

The world returned slowly.

Not with sound.

Not with light.

But with absence.

Liu opened her eyes.

White ceiling.

Faint smell of herbs.

Soft fabric beneath her.

A healer's room.

For a moment, she didn't move.

Didn't think.

Didn't feel.

Then—

"…Liu?"

Khushi said as if she was crying for a long time.

Her voice cracked.

Liu turned her head slightly.

Khushi sat beside her bed, eyes red, fingers clenched tightly in the bedsheet like she was afraid Liu might disappear.

Zia stood near the window, arms crossed—but her posture wasn't calm.

Kirti was there too.

Silent.

Watching.

And near the door—

Priya.

"You idiot!" Khushi suddenly snapped, her voice shaking. "Do you have any idea what you did?!"

Liu blinked slowly.

"…What happened?"

The room went still.

Zia stepped forward.

"You don't remember?"

Liu frowned slightly.

"I… tried to use magic."

A pause.

"It didn't work." Said Zia

Kirti's gaze sharpened and she said,

"Try now."

Liu hesitated.

Then slowly raised her hand.

Focused.

Reached for that familiar presence inside her

that quiet, steady flow of magic she had always known.

Nothing answered.

Her fingers trembled.

"…Wait."

She tried again.

Harder.

Pushing.

Forcing.

Still nothing.

The silence became unbearable.

"…It's gone," Liu whispered.

No one spoke.

Because they all knew.

Khushi looked away, biting her lip.

Zia exhaled slowly.

Kirti's expression didn't change—but her eyes did.

"…The healer said your magic pathways are unstable," Zia said finally. "It's like… something interrupted them."

Khushi added quietly, "They said you shouldn't use magic for now."

"For now?" Liu repeated.

But her voice didn't sound hopeful.

Inside her chest—

something hollow formed.

"…I'm fine," she said suddenly, sitting up.

Too fast.

Too forced.

"I just need rest."

"Liu—" Khushi started.

"I said I'm fine."

Silence.

She looked at her hands again.

They felt the same.

Looked the same.

But they weren't.

Something was missing.

Something important.

Something that had always been there.

And now—

nothing.

"I want to be alone."

Khushi immediately shook her head. "No, we are not going to leave you alone. I can't afford to do that."

Zia stepped in. "Give her space."

A moment of hesitation.

Then—

they left.

The door closed softly.

Liu sat there.

Still.

Her breathing slowly became uneven.

Her hands clenched into fists.

"…What was that?" she whispered.

The memory came back in fragments.

The voice.

The fire.

The woman.

"You hesitate"

The sound of screams, people crying, Echoes of despair, the hate and revenge spreading across the air.

Liu shut her eyes tightly.

"Stop…"

Her chest tightened.

For the first time—

fear settled in.

Not of others.

Not of enemies.

Of herself.

Outside—

the academy continued like nothing had happened.

Students talked.

Laughed.

Moved on.

But not everyone.

High above—

on the same quiet balcony—

she stood again.

Diana

Her gaze was fixed on the healer's wing.

Unmoving.

Calculating.

"She lost it," a voice behind her said.

Diana didn't turn.

"She didn't lose it."

A pause.

"It rejected her."

The air shifted slightly.

"And yet," the voice continued, "you seem… interested."

Diana's lips curved faintly.

"She's incomplete."

Finally—

she turned.

"And that makes her dangerous."

Back in the academy grounds—

Kirti stood under a tree.

Priya beside her.

Quiet.

"…Thank you," Priya said softly.

Kirti didn't respond immediately.

"You always do that," Priya added. "You act like it's nothing."

"…It wasn't nothing."

Priya smiled faintly.

"I knew you'd come."

Kirti glanced at her.

"…You shouldn't have been there."

"I didn't have a choice."

Silence settled between them.

Not uncomfortable.

Just… unfinished.

"…You've gotten stronger," Priya said.

Kirti looked away.

"…I had to."

Elsewhere—

hidden within the academy walls—

someone else was already moving.

Shelly stood before a tall window, looking down at the grounds.

Her expression was calm.

Unreadable.

"…Interesting," she murmured.

A faint smile touched her lips.

"The thread has started to unravel."

Back in the healer's room—

Liu stood up.

Slowly.

Unsteadily.

She walked toward the window.

Looked outside.

Students.

Normal life.

Magic.

Something she no longer had.

Her hand lifted slightly—

almost unconsciously.

Nothing happened.

Her fingers curled.

For the first time—

her voice broke.

"…What am I supposed to do now?"

And for once—

there was no answer.
