Chapter 2 - The Weight of Expectations

*The Weight of Expectations*

Kofi's actions in the village square had not gone unnoticed. The village elder, a wise and aged woman named Nana Yaa, summoned him to her chambers that evening. Kofi arrived, Akua in tow, and found Nana Yaa pacing back and forth in front of her fireplace.

"Ah, Kofi, I've been hearing stories about you," Nana Yaa said, her voice low and measured. "Stories about your power, your... recklessness."

Kofi shifted uncomfortably, knowing he was in trouble. "I'm sorry, Nana. I didn't mean to—"

Nana Yaa raised a hand, silencing him. "I'm not here to scold you, Kofi. I'm here to remind you that with great power comes great responsibility. You have a gift, but it's not just about you. It's about the village, the people who depend on you."

Akua spoke up, her voice firm. "Kofi's a hero, Nana. He saved me today."

Nana Yaa's expression softened. "I know, Akua. But being a hero means making tough decisions, sometimes putting others before yourself. Kofi, you need to learn to control your power, to think before you act."

Kofi nodded, feeling a mix of guilt and frustration. He knew Nana Yaa was right, but it was hard to shake off the feeling that he was being held to an impossible standard.

As they left Nana Yaa's chambers, Akua turned to Kofi and whispered, "You okay? You seem a bit... off."

Kofi forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit... tired."

But Akua knew him too well. "It's more than that, Kofi. You're worried about the sorcerer, aren't you?"

Kofi's eyes narrowed. "How did you know?"

Akua shrugged. "I know you, Kofi. You're thinking about what Nana Yaa said, about being responsible. But you're not alone, okay? We're in this together."

Kofi smiled, feeling a surge of gratitude towards his friend. Maybe he wasn't alone after all. Maybe together, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

But as they walked back to their quarters, Kofi couldn't shake off the feeling that he was being watched, that the sorcerer's eyes were on him, waiting for him to make a mistake.
