Adeline woke late, the morning sun already high enough in the sky. She then recalled the incident from the last night, her father's face but the tears had stopped flowing now, as if her body had simply run out of them.
Dragging her feet across the floor, she made her way to the washroom to wash away the salt and exhaustion of the night. After a long shower, she dressed in a simple knee-length dress and headed toward Gideon's room.
When she stepped inside, the room was empty.
"Miss Valois," a gentle voice spoke from behind her.
She turned quickly, her eyes wide. "Is Prince Gideon not in his chamber?"
