The true purpose of the mysterious sphere hidden within Night's subconscious remained an enigma. He had yet to unravel all its secrets, step by step.
In the real world, time had lost its meaning. Mavis did not take her eyes off Night for a single second, afraid to miss even the slightest detail. The flame of eager anticipation burned in her emerald eyes.
And finally, the moment arrived.
A blinding golden radiance flared up.
A circle of light materialized beneath Night's feet, rapidly forming into a golden magic seal. The seal sparked with blinding intensity, and in the next instant, a colossal pillar of energy erupted from the earth. It completely engulfed the boy's tiny figure, pierced the clouds, and shot straight into the heavens.
Mavis's eyes shone with delight. She had never expected Night to awaken his magic so quickly. She had assumed it would take much longer. Evidently, no matter how highly she had rated the boy's talents, she had still underestimated his true potential.
The giant pillar of light slowly began to dissipate. Night emerged from his meditation, opened his eyes, and a wide, genuine smile blossomed on his childish face.
"So this is what it feels like to have magic! I'm a wizard now too, right?!"
Night held his hands out in front of him, and golden sparks danced across his palms. Boundless joy could be read in his eyes. Even though he knew that, having arrived in this world, he would eventually master magic, when the moment actually came, he couldn't contain the storm of emotions.
Light!
Gazing at the shimmering gold in his hands, Night experienced a whirlwind of feelings. The very dream that preceded his reincarnation surfaced in his memory. Right now, he felt exactly as he had then: it seemed as though his body was capable of turning into pure light. True, he had only just brushed against the fundamentals of this element, so the sensation wasn't entirely all-encompassing yet.
Night raised his head and looked at Mavis, eager to share his triumph: "Mavis, I did it!"
Mavis's eyes crinkled in joy as she took a step forward and affectionately ruffled his dark hair, offering a genuine smile in return. "Yes, you did! Night, you are absolutely going to become the most outstanding wizard!"
"Mhm!" Night nodded seriously. The fact that he was being patted on the head by a girl who looked barely older than himself didn't bother him in the slightest.
"Since you've awakened your magic, starting today, we will begin your real training!" Mavis declared instructively.
Night had mastered light magic, but this was merely the first step. To become a truly powerful wizard, he would have to invest a great deal of effort into developing his abilities. Take fire magic, for instance. It is a single element, yet every fire mage wields it differently. Everything depends on their individual understanding of the nature of flames, and that is ultimately what determines the difference in strength between wizards.
The exact same principle applied to light magic!
Many mages, after awakening their powers, are forced to develop them independently, step by step. It is an agonizing process of creating something out of nothing, demanding incredible effort. Aside from trial and error, one could study ancient magic scrolls or seek guidance from experienced masters. This allowed for significantly accelerated progress and helped avoid numerous dead ends on the path to understanding magic.
Night was incredibly fortunate. Not only did he possess a terrifyingly vast magical talent, but he was also being personally tutored by Mavis—a literal walking encyclopedia of magic. Her century of experience was no empty boast. Furthermore, Mavis herself was a genius wizard who had created the Three Great Fairy Magics. It was safe to say that in the entire Fiore Kingdom, there wasn't a single mage with a richer wealth of experience than hers. And since light magic was one of her strong suits, Night simply couldn't have asked for a better mentor!
…
Time flew by unnoticed, slipping away like sand through one's fingers.
Since awakening his magic, Night's days on Tenrou Island had become filled with purpose. Aside from the time set aside for sleep and playing with Mavis, he devoted every free minute to his training. And naturally, his power grew steadily. From the D-rank he started with, he gradually climbed to C-rank, then B-rank, and finally reached the level of an A-Class Mage, if not higher!
It is worth noting that in small or medium-sized guilds, an A-Class Mage would be considered the absolute elite and the backbone of the entire organization. Of course, in a major guild like Fairy Tail, an A-rank was nothing out of the ordinary. The true might of a great guild was measured by its number of S-Class Mages.
However, Night's greatest achievement during his training wasn't his growth in magical power—that was entirely expected. Of far greater significance was the mysterious sphere of light within his consciousness. As he interacted with it more frequently, he managed to unravel some of its secrets.
First, his initial theory was confirmed: as his own power grew, he gained access to an increasingly larger volume of energy within the sphere. The stronger he became, the more light he could control. Yet even now, the fraction of energy he could command was infinitesimally small compared to the colossal reserves of the sphere itself.
Second, if he immersed his consciousness inside the sphere during meditation, his comprehension of light magic multiplied exponentially. This allowed him to master new spells with incredible ease.
Aside from these two properties, the sphere undoubtedly possessed other capabilities still hidden from him. Night could only hope that he would be able to unlock them all in the future.
…
Night's rapid growth in power was not only due to his expanding magic reserves but also the sheer number of spells he had mastered. Moreover, these were his own unique light techniques.
Under the careful guidance of the genius Mavis, and thanks to his own talent, Night picked up everything on the fly, grasping the essence of concepts from a single word. After studying the powerful spells passed down by his mentor, he spent some time adapting them, soon creating his own distinct style of light magic.
Strictly speaking, this type of magic wasn't entirely unique. There were many wizards in the world who practiced a similar style; the only difference lay in the element used.
It was Maker Magic!
In the original story, the ice mage of the Fairy Tail guild, Gray, used Ice-Make. Night, naturally, had mastered Light-Make.
In this world, Maker Magic wasn't considered the absolute pinnacle of the magical arts. It might have been inferior to certain Ancient Spells or Lost Magic, but it undeniably remained an incredibly formidable weapon. The most crucial requirement for a mage was a boundless imagination. As a rule, wizards with a rich imagination found it much easier to master Maker Magic.
