Chapter 196 - Established Law

The members of the net cafe certainly didn't know that in another world, there was a streaming platform called "Netflix." Besides creating high-quality shows, Netflix had popularized the "binge-watching" model by releasing entire seasons at once. This model had gradually replaced the traditional daily broadcast mode on the internet.

Now, the simultaneous unlocking of the remaining six Harry Potter films allowed everyone to watch to their heart's content.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a dragon appeared in the thrilling Triwizard Tournament. Additionally, the new Professor Moody—with his bizarre magical eye—demonstrated the three "Unforgivable Curses" to the students for the first time: the Imperius Curse (Imperio) for controlling a soul, the Cruciatus Curse (Crucio) for inflicting unbearable pain, and the most sinister spell in the magical world—the Killing Curse (Avada Kedavra), which causes instantaneous death.

If "Mind Control" and "Shadow Word: Pain" made the first two curses seem somewhat familiar to the casters present, the Killing Curse—which killed instantly without any way to resurrect the victim—existed on an entirely different level.

Furthermore, except during specific experience segments, moviegoers couldn't directly affect the people or creatures in the film. To put it bluntly, the audience couldn't jump into the screen to help Harry Potter fight Voldemort. Therefore, this spell couldn't be tested like the "Expecto Patronum" from the previous installment.

However, Avada Kedavra was not invincible. It could be dodged, blocked by physical obstacles, intercepted by spells like the Disarming Charm or the Stunning Spell, or even "pushed back" in a duel of competing energies. It also couldn't kill a phoenix.

Aside from the Unforgivable Curses, another spell piqued the interest of a "small group" of people: Engorgio, the Growing Charm... Several older men listened intently and practiced diligently during the Defense Against the Dark Arts scene.

However, the spell didn't work exactly as they hoped; while volume increased, density remained the same. In other words, simply growing larger resulted in their 'tools' being "big but hollow."

At the end of this film, everyone discovered the Triwizard Tournament was a conspiracy by Voldemort to regain his body. Cedric Diggory—widely considered the handsomest boy in the series—was killed, and Voldemort was reborn.

If the women couldn't take their eyes off Cedric in The Goblet of Fire, then in The Order of the Phoenix, the battle between the Order and the Death Eaters, as well as the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort, thrilled all the spellcasters. Yet, amidst the excitement, Sirius Black—the godfather Harry had only just reunited with—was killed by Stupefy during a moment of carelessness.

Seeking revenge, Harry pursued the killer, Bellatrix Lestrange. Voldemort whispered in his ear, tempting him to use Avada Kedavra to kill Bellatrix, whom he normally couldn't defeat. If he did, Harry would break the law and be wanted for life by the Ministry of Magic. Furthermore, the curse required hatred and killing intent, which would fracture his soul.

This was a common paradox in film, especially in superhero stories: the conflict between law and heroism. The audience in the cafe felt equally conflicted. Having watched Harry grow from a ten-year-old boy to a young man, they empathized with his longing for family. Seeing his godfather die just after finding him made anyone feel the urge for blood-for-blood revenge.

However, the world of Harry Potter was different from Azeroth. In times of war on Azeroth, military action was the primary means of establishing order and could override common law. In Harry's world, the background was a time of peace, and law was the universal standard for social operation. Many films used this to prompt reflection on the boundaries between upholding the law and pursuing justice. This led to tropes like Batman or Superman handing criminals over to the police rather than practicing "an eye for an eye."

Fortunately, Dumbledore appeared in time to save Harry, engaging Voldemort in a duel involving spells like the "Water Sphere" against "Fiendfyre," eventually driving the Dark Lord away. In the movie, to showcase Voldemort's power, the fight was portrayed as fairly even, though Wayne knew that in the original book, Dumbledore was entirely superior, aided by animated statues and his phoenix. One disappointment was that the two top wizards fought non-verbally, leaving the audience with no way to copy their powerful magic.

After watching these films, Wayne received a notification from the vending machine, unlocking two interesting items: the Magic Quill and the Marauder's Map. The former was the quill Professor Umbridge used to torture Harry, which carved words into the writer's hand as they wrote on paper. The latter was a map created by Harry's father that displayed the real-time location of targets within a specific area.

Before Wayne could study them, Hammond Clay appeared once again. This time, he was full of confidence, leading his guards directly into the net cafe. Wayne saw his expression and knew the letter he had written to Bolvar had worked.

Hammond Clay announced, "By order of King Varian Wrynn: Baron Wayne Mickgill is commanded to immediately surrender the traitor Tirion Fordring and the former Scarlet Crusade commander Taelan Fordring. These two will be judged by a Special Tribunal invited by the House of Nobles."

After reading the order haughtily, Clay smirked. "Baron, can you cooperate now? This is the King's order. Neither you nor even a Duke can refuse it."

Before Wayne could reply, the Fordrings appeared on the second floor. Tirion spoke to Clay: "I will go with you."

The crowd immediately began whispering: "It's been so many years, why won't they let it go?" "Everyone knows the old knight was framed. The Alliance needs people now, yet they want to cut off their own hands."

"It's infuriating. Someone must be whispering in the King's ear again."

McBride walked over. He had been quiet since Alos left, but now he stepped forward and said politely, "Vice Commander."

Hammond Clay recognized him. "Marshal, I am on official duty and cannot salute."

McBride smiled. "When will the trial take place? Will it be public? I would like to attend as a witness."

Hearing the old Marshal say this, many people—especially officers of the Northshire Legion—shouted their support: "Yes! We demand a public trial!"

"Tell us who the judges are!"

"Exactly! No closed-door operations!"

Hammond Clay held the High King's warrant today, so he wasn't about to retreat like last time. However, he didn't want to fuel the fire and risk losing control of the situation. He signaled his guards to "receive" the Fordrings while replying politely to McBride, "Marshal, I am merely following orders. My superiors haven't shared the specific details. If there is news, I will send someone to inform you immediately."

Shadowbreaker stood up. "No need! I'm going back to the city with you!"

Hammond Clay's face showed a mix of difficulty and embarrassment.

Shadowbreaker barked, "What? Does a Duke need your permission to return to Stormwind?"

"I wouldn't dare..." Clay muttered.

"Step aside!" Shadowbreaker walked to the stairs, pushing past the guards surrounding the Fordrings. He turned to Tirion. "High Lord, I will travel with you. No one will dare give you trouble on the road."

Tirion smiled and thanked him. Shadowbreaker then turned to the crowd. "I am a member of the House of Nobles. I want to see exactly who they invited to judge the High Lord while I was away."

Amidst the indignant discussions, the crowd watched the Fordrings be led away. Arator, Amy, and others returned to the cafe. Seeing Wayne calmly continuing his movie, they asked curiously, "Miller, aren't you nervous?"

"Why should I be nervous?" Wayne asked.

"The old knight was taken away," Arator said. "Under the law, his lightest sentence would be another exile."

Wayne replied, "It's fine. He is Tirion Fordring. Nothing can stop him from rebuilding the Order and leading the Northrend expedition. It's a canon event."
